The Trump deal made money for both the US in its efforts to reclaim Billions already spent and also a cut for Ukraine. At the same time it put American businesses in Ukraine giving them cover against future military incursions and put people to work. He knew the deal before the press conference. He wasnt thrilled with it clearly but he was there for the sole purpose of signing and he knew it. Then he tried to pull a fast one in front of the international press. Simply stated he got rude about it and got thrown out. The most telling and outrageous part IMHO is how he went directly to England and got a LOAN for a few Billion and did a press photo op and was all happy and smiles. Seems he is perfectly willing to take MONEY under any conditions and any concerns for Ukraine's peace stop right there. Reports he tried on the phone to elicit more from Biden too and got lambasted on the phone only to come and get less money in public later on. Seems its all about the cash with this guy.

true, but obvious why, no? it's the only way he can finance the war and not surrender. I really can't fault him for that. I understand there's Russia's side of the story and there is some legitimacy when/if standing in Russia's shoes Nevertheless, clearly Putin is bigger monster/aggressor and bad guy KTF

In reply to some previous posters: Agree that the facts surrounding Ukraine and Afghanistan aren't remotely similar....but that's not my point. What I'm saying is that PUBLIC OPINION, ie., the currency of politics, will move strongly against Trump with a Ukraine collapse, at least as much as that suffered by Biden. Does Trump understand this? I really don't have a handle on how his voters feel about continued aid to Ukraine, but, even if there's a rising tide against funding this war against Russian aggression, there's diplomatic and politically savvy ways to accomplish something, and then there's what Trump is doing. In the end, this is Trump unfiltered, it's what we voted for, and I for one hope he gets everything precisely according to his wishes. sorry for double post.

It was all about security guarantees. Trump kept wavering on security. The original deal mentioned "security guarantee". Then it was taken out. Then added as "some sort of security" Then changed to, "We're going to have Europe do that". The results of the last two agreements between Russia and Ukraine where Russia said it would respect Ukraine's borders resulted in Russia breaking the agreement. And now we are telling Ukraine to trust Putin again? So, you can see why the Ukrainian" position is and always was this; Minerals for US Security.
