Presque Isle Cabins

Looking for a recommendations...

A few friends and I (middle-age guys with kids) have a rare opportunity to get away for a week.  We all like to fish but a couple of us are very much on the novice end of the skill spectrum.  We have one 14-foot boat that we will be bringing with us.  We were thinking that Presque Isle would be our destination (driving distance for all of us).

My questions are...

Could you recommend a place for us to stay?  Preferrably a cabin on or near the water?

Are there  any places that we could rent a second boat in the area (one 14 boat for 4 adults not gonna cut it)?

Is this 14 boat capable of handling the bay on most days (wave-wise)?

Ty in advance for any thoughts/recommendations.

The bay can get rough in heavy winds, just like many inland lakes. In normal weather, I’m sure you’d be fine. Presque Isle would be a good place, but not many options to stay very close, besides hotels/motels. There are cabins a bit away from the bay, some right on the lake, but wouldn’t recommend a 14’ boat. The lake fishing, depending on time of year, is very dependent on having a boat.

Got to remember most of the bay itself is downtown Erie. Presque Isle is an urban park, although they have done an excellent job of making it feel that it isn’t. Awesome for the variety of stuff to do and how clean it is. The lake side is like a beach. Bike trail is excellent and the fishing access as noted. But accommodations like you noted are very lacking. Unless you don’t mind a 15-20 minute drive. You might be able to find a house on VRBO or AirBnB that is pretty close. I think the KOA has cabins and not too far.

If you are looking for a “mostly” fishing outing with 14’ boat, I’d maybe look at Pymatuning. Many more options of cabins/cottages either right on the water or very close. State park has cabins for rent and many on VRBO for private cottages with competitive prices. The smaller inland lakes might be a little easier to get into some fish as well. Especially for shore access for the kids to walk to the water and catch bluegills.
