Straightening Heavy Leaders

I have a couple of 7 weight fly lines for Bass bugs and such. The line tips measure 0.041". Going by the old 2/3 diameter rule for butt diameter, I'd try a butt of about 0.027" in tying leaders. My question is, how to get the coils out of such heavy butt? I've seen much about rubbing and stretching leaders, even using hot water in a tube to straighten. However, transporting gear to the water means coiling it again, right? Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!
