Slow start

This has been my slowest May in decades of fishing Erie.  My smallmouth and walleye excursions out of North East have been extremely slow so far this year.  I'm hoping it is just me.

Anybody else having better luck?

Thanks,
Jerry

Anglers are doing better on the westside but at night. During the day has been a grind for most people including myself. It can only get better at this point! TIGHT LINES

Calling for 1 to 3s upto 5s, looks like this week is shot in the azz for me. Took all the "small lake" stuff out of the boat and have the garage table full of all my other stuff. Didn't realize how out of hand I got , since last year, buying and buying and buying. Lmao. First 2 ft or less days, and I'm hooking up and heading Northbound. Good luck to all.

Thanks guys, a Lisfranc injury with multiple fractures and torn ligaments. Surgical repair with plate and 7 screws, so going to be super careful to not mess it up. Looks like late June at best for safe boating.

That's a bummer Fisherlady.  Hope you heal up quickly and no setbacks.  Playing it careful is definitely the smart approach.

Fisherlady 2,  years ago my wife had the same exact injury and the same repair 7 screws and a plate in her ankle . Slowly she improved but even today she has to still be very careful . Hope you recover without issues and get back to fishing soon.

Thanks guys, hope to be at it before the summer gets too far along.

Is anyone trolling the shoreline? Early season we have historically done better close to shore slow trolling worm harnesses and smaller stick baits. Be prepared for some crazy smallmouth bites or huge catfish.
Night trolling the shoreline in less than 10 fow with spoons and small stick baits is probably the most reliable bite but it isn't for the inexperienced boater.

This time of year, most of my time is spent trolling the shoreline, mostly plugs.  One, because I've become a lazy fisherman in my old age, and two, it produces.  At one time, the smallmouth bite was crazy (30-40 fish days) but the last 5 or so years this dropped way off.  Luckily the near shore walleye bite the last few years has made up for the difference.  This May, the bite has been tough.  Last Sunday we caught 1 bass, 1 walleye (6 lb), and 2 sheep, and that was one of our better days.
I blame it on the crazy weather, although I'm not good at adapting to changing conditions.  Erie will spoil you.

With this big blow settling by Monday, do you guys think water temps will square away by mid week?
