Ready set go!!!
From the fish commish: “The PFBC will operate under a consolidated statewide schedule for all counties during the 2020 trout season. Under this revised plan, a single Statewide Opening Day of trout season will take place on April 7.
The earlier regional mentored youth and opening days will not occur in 2020 in 18 southeastern counties.”
So opening day is...NOW!
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19

🎣 🎣 🎣 🎣 🎣 🎣 Seems to be the general concensus. PA Trout Opener
Trout season has opened in Pennsylvania effective 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, according to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
People going fishing need to abide by social distancing guidelines.
The commission opened the season early to discourage large gatherings that occur on a traditional opening day. The mentored youth opening day has been canceled.

Took ride to local creek 5minutes away nobody at all in any of the spots. Tried a bit caught a bunch tossed them all back except a 25" pali...gonna be a nightmare at these places this weekend, fish aren't spread out at all.
The once a yearers are crying pretty hard on the Facebook post blaming Wolf and the pfbc for not letting them know sooner an that all the trout will be gone by the time they go 😬 Just be lucky they still letting us fish, I have a couple buddies in the UK that told me they banned all fishing for the duration with hellish fines if caught.
Maybe pfbc will use this as a wake-up call and push for a year round open fishing on all waters and space the stocking out more. The opening day circus was a health hazard to begin with 😷

They won't make it year round fishing. They would not sell as many licenses. My son bought his license before opening day last year and that was the only day he went. Now he won't buy a license for this year.
The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

Maryland banned fishing except to fish for food. No fun fishing.

was really nice yesterday , no crowding ! would like to see them do this every year, if a lot of guys wouldn't keep every trout they catch they wouldn't be fished out in two days, and I agree with mountain man hope the use this as a wake up also.

If the season were open year round all y'all could go when and where y'all wanted. Surely that would take the pressure off, everybody needing to get to the trout streams on opening day. As for keeping fish, that would be an easy fix too, but first there need be less PFBC sitting at desk and more walking the streams. Be safe, stay well, tight lines.

The issues surrounding year round trout fishing are 1) many of the stocked streams are marginal water, meaning they get to warm to support trout once summer rolls around and 2) studies (by none other than Commissioner Bachman while working on his doctorate) show that stocked trout have a tendency to starve to death within 30-90 days of being stocked in water that isn’t just full of food sources, which is a large number of stocked streams.
This means that only top tier waters would support year round trout fishing and a vast majority of those are already open all year.
The poster formally known as Duncsdad Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

My 10 and 16 year old sons and I fished one of the most popular trout streams in the Southwest Region yesterday evening. It includes a Keystone Select section, so it's got some pretty good water throughout for a southwest region stream and I believe the entire stream, not just the KS section, was stocked in early March, so these trout have had awhile to learn how to act like trout. The 10 year old caught and released about 25 rainbows and browns from one big hole using good old Berkley Power Worms. While we were there, there was a huge hatch going off for a couple of hours. I mean swarms. I think I saw about 3 risers in 2.5 hours we were there. My 16 year old fly fishing son (I don't fly fish so I took his word for it) said he was pretty certain they were Blue Wing Olives. He tried a couple different dry patterns, some emergers and nymphs can caught one fish in about an hour, and he's pretty good with the fly rod, especially on the rare occasions when we fish for wild trout. As soon as he started slow stripping wooly buggers and green weenies, he started pounding the pellet heads.

Obviously once it gets to hot you can't really fish most streams, buts there's always the dark timber natives. There's all kinds catch release ff only spots all over. I'll fish into mid June most years and from September till June the fall and winter are the best times imo. I'm not big on dryflys sure there cool getting them on top but over recent years of become a streamer junkie . Big articulated stuff for browns. Tuesday I caught a 20" golden on a 5" streamer hit it like a torpedo
