The fall panfish bite is really heating up in the Southwest. Within the past week, the crappie and bull gill bite has been pretty darn good from shore.

BTDT, I want to know why you call fish "stupid fish". Is it because they are so easy to catch?

We hashed that all out a few weeks ago in the Arthur thread on the SW boards.

Stupid Fish = Fish that won't bite/are hard to catch.

Dumb Fish = Fish that will bite/are easy to catch.

So it's possible to catch some dumb fish out of a school of stupid fish.  But you can't catch stupid fish because they're not dumb enough to bite.

BTDT, Now BTDT you have to realize those stupid fish are just that, kind of stupid. They are just like all other creatures they need to procreate and survive.  Now as to the procreate issue we will use that on those stupid Bucks this next few weeks. However the survival aspect we will apply to the catching of fish. Now until they develop a hook that seeks fish mouths and enters we as fishermen need to figure out how to get the hook in the mouth of the fish. Ah, tempt them with something they can not resist on the hook, something they eat. Like a piece of homemade apple pie and ice cream. No that would catch me. What do fish like? Smaller other fish and all the small wiggly creatures that find their way into the water. Now bait shops are full of those things, and my wife knows I am a sucker for them all. Now after many trips to the bait store I and those like me strain to carry all our killer lures and bait to the habitat of the wily "stupid fish". We proceed flailing all that tackle one at a time in front of the "stupid fish". They are not hungry today you should have been here yesterday. Have none of these fish heard of overeaters anonymous, or have all those fish already been caught. Well another day, perhaps then Ill catch some "stupid Fish". Yes BTDT I understand about those "Stupid Fish". But every once in awhile it all comes together like that day back in 1974 when----perhaps I will leave that for anther day as the tip of my pointing finger is getting sore.

Treesparrow very kind of you, getting a sore finger, taking time to enlighten (enlighten; heard that someplace today) me on "stupidfish" and not that I don't appreciate the information already presented, might you be so kind and willing to endure the painful finger and explain, what exactly does a "hook" do?

Re: Catching? 2019/10/17 19:49:04 (permalink)
I can answer that, BT. The hook is the thing you put the bait on and throw in the water to see if there are any dumb fish there, unless you are fishing the Allegheny River. Jigs have a hook on them to present bait but it is used more to locate all the rocks and dead tree branches under the surface. 20 years or so ago, I casted about 400 jigs, spent 3 days paintin' them, and when done, my son asked, "are we gonna put them in our tackle boxes or should we just take them down and throw them in the river now"?

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

👻so let me get this straight..... put bait on a hook then throw the hook in the water. OK, sounds easy enough.🦇

🎃I'll be most happy to let yunz know how that turns out.👁

Re: Catching? 2019/10/17 22:37:20 (permalink)
BTDT, Lets see a hook. A big right hook is what one boxer tries to land and the opposing boxer tries to duck. Its also something connected to drapes that my wife makes me help hang , which interferes with my fishing time. Lets see hooks are used on my boots also.
Wait just a moment we were discussing fishing. So you must be talking about fishing hooks. There are two kinds, the ones seldom used are on my stringer, the other kinds as E Mitch was so kind to illuminate on must be for impaling sunken wood and rocks. Although much better fishermen than I get them into fishes mouths with magical ease.  That's the hook we are talking about. I have read books and magazine articles on how to get them hooks in fishes mouths. I have watched others on film get them in fishes mouths what looks like every try. After all that studying out I go again, and what happens. Some do gooder farmer approaches me and says fella why would you fish here in McElligot's Pool. Why kind sir I said you never know what might be in McElligot's Pool.
On another most recent thought. I heard yesterday afternoon that they were "clobbering" the walleyes at -----, so of course I went today. I think I did have a half hearted bite but that was all. There was obviously  something I was missing. I think it was something to do with 'clobbering' yesterday, yes- yes-  yes yesterday 'clobbering'. Today nothing - yesterday "clobbering'. I know if I keep thinking, it will come to me. I know I have experienced this before.
Oh my poor pointy finger, why does it always hurt when I get on this computer. I am going to bed.

Tresparrow on the conversation of walleyes, sounds like you got clobbered.

On the subject of getting clobbered, it must be the hook, my wife uses.

So now to catch stupid fish all I should need learn..... is duck.

Super.... thanks for setting me straight, on the hook. Quack quack.

Sujie, Sorry we have slipped off topic, however as in my last Post I did get skunked yesterday although others did well the day before. A week ago I did catch a couple Eye's in Pymy. Which got me excited so I went back a couple days latter and caught a Perch and a Pymy Catfish. Cats in Pymy must be very plentiful or they follow me around and put my hook in their mouth thinking I will rub their belly as I take the hook out.
I just got the courage to tell my wife I can not comply with her requests today I have me own agenda. Whoa hook - quack - POW. Dang it BTDT  you got my quack - duck mixed up.

I think I will go fishing a bit tomorrow. Although technically no one can fish tomorrow as it has not happened yet. So after much thought I realize one can only fish today. That is really to bad because after 60 years of fishing I have come to realize that yesterday is the day to fish. They always bite better yesterday. you see after years of complaining about how bad my day of fishing went and being told " they sure were biting yesterday you should have been here then".
I guess my only chance of catching fish is to invent a time machine. If I skipped fishing for  a couple years and perfected a time machine I might still be chasing a paradox of still never fishing yesterday. You see even going back a day I would still be technically fishing today. So in reality all them fishermen  and  fisherwoman are full of it. They all caught their fish today- yesterday. I need some rest, Doctor where's my pills.

Heck.... sounds logical to me.

But I think instead of going back in time, because the day your going to will never be yesterday. So go forward in time, to the day before yesterday then you can go fishing tomorrow.

Not hard to figure that out, while sitting here, in basket weaving class.

Let us know how they 'were' biting.🙈
