International Coastal Cleanup Day September 21, 2019

Join the Pennsylvania Steelhead Association on September 21, 2019 for this year's International Coastal Cleanup Day! This event will be held at the Walnut Creek Access Area from 8:45 am until around 11 am. Whether you live along the coast or miles inland you are ultimately connected to the waterways that provide you with water, food, and recreation. Help to keep our local waterways and the entire ocean environment clean, identify the sources of debris, and help change the behaviors that cause the problems.

Commendable 👍, but if people in general weren't total slobs there would be no need for this day/event. This I find disappointing 😞

I participated in this along the Genesee River, in Rochester, NY for a number of years, until the two other volunteers and I encountered a local canoe club who had ruined a fair piece of river with the installation of  the gates used for competitions showed up driving down the closed access road to play with their boats.  I figured if they could monopolize the river than way, they could do the cleanup.  This function is used to a great extent for "propaganda purposes", one person is supposed to record every piece of junk that another picks up, a waste of labor as far as I am concerned.  And many of the local sights are cleaned regularly by Parks workers, and the volunteers end up picking up cigarette butts.  But I guess it makes a bunch of people feel good about their environmentalism, even though they drove a car half was across the county to pick up a small bag of trash!  I would prefer an open season on litterbugs, but that is not PC!

Agreed,  and so do I, but wouldn't it be nice to come home with an empty bag because no one littered.

This is the ideal situation, but my faith in humanity tells me this isn't going to happen

Murder can get you a life sentence, and look at Chicago on a weekend!  Unfortunately I think Mr Crappie Slayer is correct.

Where's the good old Pa. chain gangs ? put our tax dollars to work........lol

I've picked up much trash while fishing in the private owned areas that were open to public just so they wouldn't get posted up....man I hate those white Styrofoam coffee cups lying all over the parking areas !....I just don't get people's thinking or slob habits .....but I've learned never underestimate how many dirt bags are around ...there no shortage.
