Beware fishermen & hunters Ticks are active !

Well I had my first bad tick experience two days ago....had one completely embedded in my stomach area ! Couldn't even see it ...showering at 11pm. noticed a red mark and small hole ....ugh ...a fricken tick !
Played around awhile but no luck ....off to the emergency room . Doctor numbed me up and started digging. Claimed last year was bad for ticks and this year looks worse . Not sure but I think when I was in the woods picking Ramps / wild Leeks for about an hour he nailed me or night fishing . Should have spayed myself but I never gave it a thought ....so heads up all !

I haven't had any attach yet, but picked 3 off of me already. I'm afraid take the pups out for exercise, can only imagine how many they'll pick up.

Just the opposite here. Have only seen two on the pointers this calendar year and they run every day.

    I’ll take it that way.

Ticks are everywhere in Venango. Better spray down with sawyer's if you are going to venture into the woods

Pulled one out of my thigh about 2 weeks ago. I've been moving rocks outta the woods and must have picked it up then. Pulled 2 off the dog the same week. Seems like the status quo around my area any more. I usually look at my pants every few minutes in the woods this time of year, but got lax while I was working. Nasty little shats!

Like BT said, Frontline + or Advantix. Yeah, ya gotta do it every 30 days, but there simply is no reason for a dog (or cat) to have fleas and/or ticks. Not treating them nowdays is like cruelty to animals.

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

My pooch gets treated, but was not quite do when I pulled the little buggers off her. She swims a lot, so maybe that shortens the lifespan of the advantix.

By the way captain, hope you're at least enjoying those leeks. Picked a bunch Sunday. Tried transplanting half of what I picked on my new property so I can have a patch of my own one of these days.

About treating dogs - I am a HUGE fan of the Seresto collar.  Been using one on my two labs now for over a year, and ZERO ticks on either of 'em.  Only one hunts, but we are in some of the most tick infested areas of Butler and Armstrong County for pheasants and ducks.

6 years ago, I had to put down my first lab because of Lyme disease.  I was using Advantix on him b/c it was a little cheaper.  Vet told me back then that it was NOT waterproof.  May have changed by now.

On the Seresto collar, they are good for 8 months if they're dry.  6 months if your dog's a water dog like mine.  Can usually find 'em with a rebate or on sale at Agway or Tractor Supply for around $55.

Pulled one outta my gut last week.  I hate those things!

Get bravecto for your dog it lasts for 3 months and its waterproof. My lab swims a lot.and the bravecto works well for her.As for humans I spray myself good and still we get ticks  its to the point we wont take her in woods or trails any longer cause of them.

Agree. I used to use the k9 advantix 11 but switched to nexgard for our two dogs. Seems to work.

As far as ticks, dogs, and Lyme, I've gotten the vaccine for the dog ever since she was a puppy. Maybe this has been around for a while, but I don't remember ever being told about it when I had my last dog. Hoping it works, because if the dog ever gets Lyme I'll be giving the vet a piece of my mind. If they ever come out with an option for humans I'm in, considering the tick population seems to be on the rise

I'd share but it's almost gone .....somebody been using it up ......lol

I froze some leaves going to see how that works ....not sure yet.
Yea Crappie I love the stuff .....wife hates the smell.....lol
I use it on crackers , devil boiled eggs, and almost any thing you like to dip. It's got a strong garlic bite to it but the cream cheese or mayo tunes it down a bit . I just add those extras to taste , sometimes I just eat it straight pesto. Be sure to bush teeth if your talking a lot ....lol

+1.....these are a great item. My little sh** is allergic to most all topical flea and tick medications, and the Seresto collar has been great. No reaction to it, and it works better than any topical or ingested medication we have tried. I just take it off when he and my lab swim or get bathed. They seem to be effective for the entire 6-8 months.

All the products seem to work on the dog they wont bite the dog but they will jump on the dog and then on to you or your vechicle or home. All the otherproducts for humans somewhat work but not entirely. You almost have to wear a hazmat suit anymore to keep them off you.

Just in time for this thread, State Representative Brad Roae posted an article about the being aware of ticks. Here is some timely help on getting yourself and the tick tested for Lyme.

Freezing ramps work just fine....... I've been transplanting ramps for the last 3 years in my side woods next to my yard. They come up every year but I haven't harvested any.....saving them till I'm to old to tramp the woods...lol.....I don't dig as many, once dug there done,I cut a ton at ground level....leave the bulbs to regrow next year....they reproduced by seeding.....
