Allegheny River or Reservoir???

A group of us will be visiting Warren in May. Better Walleye fishing in the reservoir or down below the kinzua dam that time of year???

I've fished the lake maybe 5 or 6 times when the river was high.  It is beautiful, but a tough lake to fish.  Usually catch one or two fish in a full day fishing. But have caught a couple nice pike and lost a huge one I assume was a pike or musky.  Never did catch a walleye.  I think the gill nets up in the reservation have taken their toll on the lake.
 

Don't rule out the lower Allegheny if you just want to catch fish. You can usually get a mixed bag on any of the pools up to Lock 9. My two boys have been able to get out a few times since early April, and the youngest has 3 muskies under his belt so far this year. I went out with the oldest last Sunday. We caught bass including a 17" white bass, 4 or 5 decent channel cats, Roger caught a near 27" walleye, and I got the biggest friggin' drum we've ever seen in the river. It was near 24" long and almost 12" from spine to belly. Thought I had me a big flathead. We got wet twice, and we got dry twice in 9 1/2 hours on the river, but we had a good time.
