Lake Arthur Striped Bass

 I don't fly fish but have caught them on ones very similar to these... 

Thank you for the information, it is appreciated. I bought a couple Clouser minnows and Deceiver Bait fish (not sure of the difference). I'll give it a try.

Good work Recman and son.  Sounds like an awesome trip.  Those things (especially 22"+) will give your drag a workout.  You've got to let the big ones run a few times before trying to muscle them in.  Unless you are using 10wt. with some heavy line.
 
I've caught them on both the Clouser and Deceiver myself (although more on the Ohio River, way back when you could toss anything near a certain poopy pipe that is no longer around and catch them until your arm fell off)...  One of my favorite to tie, was the Clouser/Deceiver hybrid.  Basically a Clouser with some saddle hackle tied in.  I like how the eyes would get the fly down a bit (at times in Arthur, that isn't what you want though).  That saddle hackle gives a lot of extra action.
 
I add saddle hackle to some of the buck tail jigs that I tie.  Which are basically a weighted version of that hybrid for spinning gear.  There is too much stuff to get hung up on my boat to fly fish from.  I don't get out nearly as much as I would like, and is challenging enough to catch fish without breaking out the fly rods...  That said, they are an absolute blast to catch on fly gear.

We fished from 4-9 pm. My son stayed near a drop-off and waited for the fish to come to him. You could see a few alewife on the surface from time to time. I cast to one of them and had a hard hit that broke my line off. 
I could see a couple "boiling" out in the lake. I walked out 40 yards or so from shore and starting casting. One striper hybrid "boiled" 10 yards in front of me. I cast out to it 6-10 times before it took the fly. It was a lot of casting, and stripping for the day, to get the fish. Enjoyed every minute of it.
