took a pass
Got out yesterday for my first and last shotgun Fall hunt.
Went in the Afternoon.
Was late due to many road closings on my 45 mile trip to where I took the Spring gobbler this year.
Big windstorm the day before.
Hadn't been back since spring.
The farm has gone from high numbers to one Gobbler sighting ( no hens) each of the past 2 Springs.
Bout 2 hrs before dark about 20 hens and young entered the field opposite me.
They were agitated and flying up and squaking all over the place- seems 2 groups entered the field at the same time and neither was happy about the other.
It was a hoot to watch.
As I was about to leave around 15 minutes before the end of shooting time I suddenly noticed a half dozen walking into the woods out of the field right below the shelf I was sitting on.
I watched them in anticipation at 40 yds and coming straight in.
Said to myself- Good the numbers are coming back up ---
They got to a bit of a rise and were out of sight for a bit sooo---
Slipped out unnoticed.
Sometimes a pass is as good a memory as shooting.
