Kinzua resorvoir or the river below?

I'm heading up to Warren with a jet boat.  Plan is to fish the river but I'm wondering if the lake is worth fishing.  I know it was really good a long time ago then pretty much dead.  Is the lake worth fishing or should I stick to the river?

If you know where to fish they are both good. Never hurts to give it a shot.

River's sort of low & warm, 1700 cfs, 70-72 degrees.  Watch for rocks & riffles, especially if you're not familiar with that area.

Might hit the river Saturday and the lake Sunday.  We probably won't venture down too far on the river.  Seems like the best fishing is closer to the dam in the past.

Any tips on the lake?  What depth should we target and what part of the lake?  I was thinking Elijah boat launch and head back into that branch to where it gets shallower with sunken timbers and fish attractors. Only fished it once 20 years ago and only caught one smallmouth in a full day of fishing.  Beautiful lake.

We ended up fishing the reservoir on Saturday.  We fished the first branch up from the dam launching at Elijah boat launch.  Wind was blowing down the length of the branch but that was where we marked fish.  We drifted in 20-30' of water using crawlers and suckers.  Had a lot of short strikes leaving teeth marks on suckers but only caught 2 smallmouths.  Probably missed 15 hits, not sure what the problem was.

Fished below the dam on Sunday with similar results.  3 smallmouths 2 carp and some big horned chubs.  Trout were rising all around us but we couldn't get a hit.  There was a hatch of some kind of little brown fly and sulfur.

Probably could have done better here at home on the Ohio River, but it was nice getting away.  Beautiful area, saw about 6 or so Eagles.
