TICKS AAARRRGGGGGG
Holy cow these ticks freaking to much this year. Every Time I've been out this year I'll be getting attacked by these little BLOOD SUCKERS!!!!! They laughed at the repellant I have been using. Seen a homemade mixture of apple vinegar water and scented oil I'll be tring tonight. Anybody have a sure repellant?

Try treating your clothing with Permethrin sp?, which you can buy in most Wall Marts or most sporting goods stores. It is a synthetic chemical that acts like substance derived from the chrysanthemum flower. It is a neurotoxin so treat it with respect. I treat my chaps and upper outer gear. Then my winter duds I treat also. The little ****** (fill in the blank) like the cold weather spring and fall, and best with some recent moisture. They will be active until the temperature goes below 25 F. Its either treat or stay inside for me. I work in the woods and have had three burrowed in this fall all from one day, just hadn't treated clothing yet. They were not native to this continent and seems they were brought to an Island off the East coast in a study. They got loose infesting the Island then hitchhiked to the mainland hence Lime Connecticut. Not sure if the Spirochete was native to our mouse population or not but it now had a carrier. Lime disease was present on the European Continent. The most studied person in the world ( the fella the found preserved in a European glacier) had markers of lime disease). Wow, we really needed these.

By the way, the Mosquito that caries the Zika virus is non native to this continent.

I've had good luck with Permethin as well.

I'll have to try that.
I'm on a course of Doxycyclene now because I had one embedded and engorged on my ribs last weekend. Had to pick another one out of my stomach yesterday. Pulled one out that was embedded in the back of my son's ear last week too.
And those are just the ones that were attached. Have had em all over me the couple times we've been out.

Sister in law is getting tested today for lymes disease. She's had 2 removed from her in the past week just from getting the mail. So far they haven't been bad at my house this fall but in the spring we had them pretty much everywhere.

Sawyers from Amazon.com or Tractor Supply. Target and Wally world so sell it in some stores. https://sawyer.com/produc...mium-insect-repellent/ Make sure you get the water based stuff in the pump sprayer and not the oil based aerosol sprays. The water based stuff smells a little when you first spray it but goes away when it drys. The oil based stuff continues to stink. Soak your clothes down with it good and then let them dry. You can buy the permethrin in concentrated form and make your own home brew spray too. Forget where you can by the concentrated stuff though. Only need a really low concentration to kill the bugs though. 1% on the topical creams. It is relatively safe for humans too. It is the active ingredient in many topical solutions for lice and scabies. Haven't had ticks get on me in my south hills stand locations but EVERY time I have hunted in my northern Allegheny county stands for the last 3 years, I have had multiple ticks on me. Last week, watched one start crawling up my pant leg and then curl up and fall off. I had treated it with the sawyers.

What are these "ticks" everyone speaks of; Groundhog Tick, Lone Star Tick, Black Legged Tick, Western Black Legged Tick all of which are common to the Pennsylvania Wilds, a/k/a the Lyme Capital of the country. In 2013 a total of 4,981 confirmed cases of Lyme Disease was reported with stats published May of 2015 showing a total of 7487 cases for Penn's Woods.

Ixodes scapularus Deer tick. I have probably spent more time in the woods than 90% of the of outdoor people. As I worked and did most of my recreation in the woods. Until about 15 years ago I got dog ticks on me but never these Deer Ticks. They came in from outside. I remember the first showing up in P.I., Cooks Forest, Stat College areas. Think about it, where would people with their pets visit from New England. Then for some reason I then started picking them up in Butler Co. and a couple years latter in Venango Co. Now about everywhere.

I do some hammock camping and always spray the hammock down with Permethrin every start of the warmer seasons. Sometimes when I'm in my lazy mood I just lay in the hammock and watch tick and bugs just die when coming in contact with the bug net.

Remember the dreaded "West Nile Virus" and how about the current "Zika Virus" drawing such a response and co-ordinated effort for extermination. Thousands upon thousands, documented cases, of "Lyme Disease " across the U.S. and spreading. Hello CDC?
