Read the post RS posted - and its pretty much the same as trout fishing. Light tackle and right presentation/drift. Biggest thing is getting use to the other "Fisherman".

Think "brook trout" on for your presentations in low water. I have spent plenty of time stalking steelhead just as I would brook trout.

^^^^^^^^^ LOL, that reminds me of the times crawlin down the hill and laying on the bank of Cascade creek. If you sneezed, it was over. BH

Haha, lots of Wild Brookie creeks I fish that are like that. Crawl on the ground, wear all camo, and don't let them see you cast the fly. Get all that right, then drift the fly correctly and hope the fish can't see it's a fake.

if you can see them, they can see you. the smaller and the lighter, the more hook ups. 4# main line, 3.7# seagar, size 18 hooks and single eggs. u will be on the right track, then gotto learn the drift.

Jolodge I have never been fishing for steelhead.... how do you start.... a fishing pole, hooks , bait or flies and waders where do you go... head north on I 79 to Lake Erie tribs Elk and Walnut are the popular ones on the west side . wherever you see anglers, you'll know there are fish there the creeks are more often than not low and clear ...so sight fishing is common, if not the norm in PA That means if those 35 fish in the hole or run are surrounded by anglers, don't be afraid to walk up or down steam and look for fish or chuck some junk in fishy looking fast or pocket water I've been pleasantly surprised many-a-time by chucking junk in pockets where I couldn't see fish in CLEAR water ..L.T.A.
