Looking for general info regarding smallies in the Bay Area??

Are there smallies around in September?
If not where do they go after they leave the Bay Area during fall months. I would like to go and try my luck catching some before it gets too cold if possible.
I was told they go into about 30 ft of water and hang out there til spring.
Any info would be greatly appreciated..

    They will not be in the bay area at that time. They swim out into the lake into deeper waters.
