Presque Isle shore fishing

Can anyone help me out here?  I'm taking two young kids to Erie this weekend and want to find a place where they can safely catch some fish from shore.  Anyone have any good suggestions (and directions of how to find it) if possible?

Much appreciated!

I think what you want is the pier(s).  There are two I think.  You might do a search here while waiting for people to post.  I've never been personally, but I do recall reading about them.

Some of the shallower bays (ie) thompson bay would be good as well, especially if you can wade them. That is about 6-7 feet deep at most, and I've seen guys wading it and catching some pretty nice fish.

Try the waterworks ponds, especially the East pond (?) - the one with the rotary pavilion.

I dunno your youngins ages or your target species but I took my 6 yo an 10 yo to walnut this past weekend and they had a great time. Nonstop action on cats, drum, an a few carp. Might be worth the drive over if all else fails

The kids are 6 and 8, so we wont be wading.  Just looking for an easy to find place with decent access from the banks.  Species doesn't much matter.  Panfish to drum to bass to catfish...  They'll be happy with whatever.

You guys mentioned Waterworks Pond and Thompson bay... not sure how to find them?  When I pull into Presque Isle, are there signs for those?

The North pier is very popular from the Presque Isle side.  East and West piers are nice too.

Go to one of the piers, you can catch almost anything in the lake. Just about any bait too! But, if you hook anything big you'll need a long net or run to the end (North pier.) Use some weight to, currents can be bad.

Thanks for the help, guys.

We stopped at the East and West piers with no luck.  A lot of seaweed and choppy waves, other fishermen there were skunked too.  We moved to the waterworks ponds and caught a couple of small bluegill.    North Pier was most productive.  My son caught a nice 4lb largemouth on a Berkley Gulp minnow and we all limited out on gobies.   Saw a handful of smallmouth caught by people around us.  Not the most productive day, but we did o.k.
