Fly tying material

Is there a synthetic material that floats that can be used to tie dry flies so that I don't have to add floatant?

Foam is the only thing that floats without floatant.

Powdered desicant also works, but if it opens up or spills in your bag/vest, it's a mess.  Desicant works great & especially on CDC winged flies, but I prefer using floatant & rarely fish with CDC flies.

Nah, I like terrestrials & have no prejudice towards any material innovations.  I don't think the original poster was looking for terrestrial patterns though.  I think he's looking for a magic material that he can use as bodies on traditional mayfly imitations.  Perhaps I read it wrong.

I think I was thinking of the unibody when I posted the thingamabody link. Looks like they could be incorporated into alot of your standard dry fly patterns. Google "unibobber fly patterns"

It isn't a synthetic, but deer hair floats very well for a long time. By adapting the amount used, and going with dyed types, nearly every common dry can be duplicated with deer hair, and a black deer hair cricket is a go-to nearly anywhere.
