Walleye Tips

I'm hoping to ice my first walleye this year. I'd like any tips like favorite lures and how you rig them (snaps or no snaps, tipped or not, etc) sizes of baits, etc. Also, I'm not a tip up guy, but a lot of people say that's the best way to catch eyes so I'm going to try that too. Any pointers concerning targeting walleye with tip ups will also be appreciated.

On a tip-up, 4" to 6" lively river shiner fished a foot off the bottom on good walleye structure with just enough weight to keep it down.  Use the lightest leader you can get away with.
