Loyalhanna today

Took the family out on the boat today for some bluegill action.  I don't usually go there on the weekend, but it seemed insane to me.  The parking lot was packed with jet skiers and pleasure boaters (tubing, water skiing, etc.), to the point we had to go up to the dam and fish the no wake area.  We only saw one other boat fishing.  Got plenty of action, but absolutely no size at all.

Ended up quitting early and going swimming and playing on the playground.  Don't think I'll be heading out there again, at least on the weekends.

I see you are from Pittsburgh. Not sure if you are familiar with Virgin Run Lake out here in Fayette County but it is an easy relaxing drive from the Burgh. Went there the other day and caught a lot of bull gills from shore. Nice place to take the family. Keep in mind you are only allowed electric motors.

I just looked it up, looks like it is about the same distance as Loyalhanna - we'll have to check it out.  Thanks!

I fish from shore and where I fish which is over by the spillway they kinda are. I didn't have too much trouble though. Only had to clean my hook off a couple times when reeling in. Like someone said before, the weeds are the reason for the bluegill action being good. Saw some decent bass chasing gills. Couldn't get any though.

I have not been to Virgin Run yet this fishing season. We were there in January to see if the water was back up.We walked around the lake when it was down found  alot of old bottles Nehi ,RC etc.We have fish there for 25+ years.Always great fishing from a boat.A few years ago the weeds would be getting bad by now.

It is one of my favorite places to go when I am after panfish. Not too much pressure. Cant wait to get a boat though.

I have never caught a crappie at Virgin Run so I couldn't tell you. Bluegills had some size to them. Seen some smallish largemouth last time there but couldn't get them to take anything.
