Knowing the body of water you fish is the key. I spent hours just learning lakes and streams. This site can give you lots of opinions, some good, some not. Use it as a part of your tools. 
 
As for trout, I've caught many of them right through the month of August. You just have to know where to find them.
 
There is no place I would rather fish than right here!!!
