Preserved Crayfish?

Like any good fisherman I occasionally buy something on a whim, and about 2 years ago I bough a big pack of preserved crayfish (and Emerald Shiners now that i think about it), but have never used them. This is mostly because my work/school schedule was punishing for the last decade and getting to fish meant only a couple of hours here and there, and I mostly stuck with my go-to baits.

Before I spend two hours staring at an unmoving rod tip, has anybody here ever used the preserved crayfish that come in the ziplock baggie off the shelf? Are they worth the effort?

I can't imagine that they're any worse now than they were when you got them.

The obvious answer is to take two rods, or at least rig multiple hooks, and try out your preserved stuff along side bait you have more faith in.

I've drifted the magic bait large emerald  shiners with jig heads in deeper current and caught smallmouth and walleye, never used the crayfish

Thanks all. I'll take them with me to try, but I won't count on them!

I'm sure the cats will eat them. If you drift them through some current, smallies might grab them. I've never used the crawdads or preserved frogs though.

I'm thinking of just plunking one on the bottom in current where I've caught Smallies before in order to test their attractiveness. I rarely use livebait, and that's why I bought them in the first place, for those days when a lure just won't do! :)

I would be highly suspicious of anyone claiming that "preserved crayfish" were "live bait".

I laughed when my buddy pulled a bag of them out last year on the bay. He was crushing the the large mouth with them. He used the entire bag that day. You never know
