Allegheny River This Weekend

I'm thinking about trying out the river in the general area downstream of Franklin on saturday.  Just wondering if anyone has had any recent success and any thoughts in general.  It will be my first time on this stretch so I'm pretty excited.  The temperature is supposed to drop from the 70's on thursday to the low 60s on friday and saturday.  hopefully that does not turn of the fishing action

Thoughts in general, the water levels look ideal for a float and the change of air temp should not affect the water much,  barometric pressure can have differing affects but rains, for me at least, usually produce active catches.  As long as no large rain storms hit muddying the river you should have a decent trip!  Good luck!

Yeah hopefully all these thunderstorms dont affect that stretch of the allegheny.  The water temps seem decent for wading (which is what I'll be doing).  Going to be a lot of fun, and it will be my first trip this season.  Very excited.

Better fishing above Oil City, not below Franklin.

well, you can all rest easy, i caught one bass (albeit one nice sized bass) today so there is no reason to worry about the well being of the allegheny river as a fishery

Based on my 47 years of fishing every nook and cranny from February - mid-December, 10 miles north of Oil City to five miles below Fisherman's Cove. Got any more questions. sonny?

Not for you.  47 years?  Your posts are more appropriate for a middle school student.

Don't worry about how high I may or may not be able to count honeybun.I've yanked that many in a day.But I'm curious why just stay away from Allegheny and leave Sugarcreek for the masses?

It's 33 river miles, muffin. I'm glad to break it down for you if you can't count that high.

Hit up a few favorite bass spots over the weekend.

Did pretty good, catching maybe 20-30, in the 1-3 lb. range.

I know it's not keeper season yet, but I hate that they're in there competing with all the trout we pay to stock, so I threw them on the bank.  Good times.

No sir! You did not! Bet you haven't caught 20 fish in your LIFE!!! Hehehehehehehehe

Why would I lie about something like that?

It was a pretty good weekend of fishing, but far from the best ever.  Decent consistent action, given the conditions.  I was really after some trout, though, so I beached the bass, that way nobody who comes through after me needs to waste time with them.  Kind of a public service for other fishermen.

I saw a few bass in the water that I practically had to force feed them since they wouldn't leave their spot.  Eventually they'd hit, though.

They're not really that hard to catch...most of them will go for anything they can see that looks like it might be food.
