Wayne, do you have to set the hook with those octopus hooks or do they set themselves, like circle hooks. I looked at the the exact hooks you are talking about and was tempted to buy a pack but I don't know anything about them. How about some pros and cons circle vs octopus?

With the octopus, you set the hook as normal J hook.   I do have a better hookup percentage  with the octopuses compared to some of the other J's Ive used though.  And my rate has been very similar with the octopuses and the circles.   A few reasons I use them over the circles are, 1, Ive fished with some guys who really dont like not setting the hook, and to be honest kinda prefer to myself.   It also helps with some that might not fully commit to loading the rod.  2. I and some who go with me like to use bait clicker reels, 3. a fish coming in at you with a circle hook will not hook itself, 4. I like the much wider gap of the octopus, for a coupla reasons.

None of those things are really big "problems" that can't be overcome if using circles, just boils down to personal preference I guess.

None of those fish are the same and if you think otherwise you better get your vision checked old man haha. With well over 3000 posts it seems like your doing a lot more web surfin than fishing bub. I have yet to see anything proving your claims of being a fisherman of any sort. And to be honest I dont let internet trolls get me mad. In fact me and some work buddys are cracking up as we speak at your posts. It does annoy the crap out of me though when someone who is very unqualified makes invalid claims like "musky fishing is extremely similar to flathead fishing" haha. I almost died when I read that...one of the more retarded claims ive read on here. Wayne you get the award!

Past your nappy time Jr.?

Never said flathead fishing was similar to musky fishing.   I said the catch rate of experienced fishermen of both are relatively the same.    Check that, higher among musky fishing.   Even you know guys who are living proof.    Meaningless though, because all that matters to you, is you cant do it, so it has to be the hardest thing in the world right?

Learn to fish and maybe you will catch more than one tiny musky in 3 years, and you won't have to post pictures of these 8 inch bass like in your other posts. lmFao.

All my time? lmao!   Apparently it takes you alot more time to make a post than it does me. lmao.

As for your friends laughing, i don't blame them.  I laugh too when people make themselve look like an internet blowhard/fool lmao.   ....Either that or they caught a glimpse of this picture:

..I even have fun catching bait.

Me too!   But I usually don't post a half a dozen pictures of my "bait" to brag to the internet masses about my wee bass. lmao.

Hey we aim to please.    Besides, young snag is thinking of a career in public relations once he retires from the pro musky & catfish circuits.

Ill catch those all day and soo would most the people on this forum. Your just mad wayne cuz you can get your walker down to the river anymore. Looks as though your fishing days are over before they started waynester...Judging by your other posts it looks like you have a lucrative career in sports analysis. Really, who talks hockey on a fishing forum?

I would ask you, my lil miniature feeshun buddy, to carry my walker down for me, but seeing the strain on your face  from holding up that  bass, I wouldnt want to be responsible if you were to rupture yourself.

Wayne, thanks. I might try the Octopus hooks. Do you ever use two hooks on your bigger baits or do you always use one hook?

Yahoo!   free at last!

I see youre still whining eh snagglepuss? lol

I apologize, but I wasn't aware it was my civic duty as well as sole purpose in life to provide YOU with "helpful fishing information"? lol.

And if you are aware of how much each of those fellas mentioned provide, and have read each of their posts here, you have far more time than I on your hands.

Maybe....just maybe....If they provided FOUR times as much for you as I do, instead of only twice as much you might have caught musky after all your time and effort, and not have had to post this green fingerling to impress people!:

And since you are so interested in this being educational,  Helpful fishing tip #1....   Might wanna upsize from that rooster tail if you are after musky.   Just sayin'....

Re:big flatheads 2013/05/06 17:36:31 (permalink)
Wayne, why are you bashing the guy for posting pictures of a small fish? Just because you and him disagree? This is the kind of crap that makes people stop posting and kills these forums. I come here (and I bet most other people do too) to look at pictures of fish, and to talk fishing and share information. I don't care how big they are. Coming here and seeing that someone can go out on their lunch break and catch a few river bass is awesome!!!

You talked earlier about being "wiser" as you got older, but then you spend most of today trying to bash some "kid" on an internet forum that you disagree with....it really is pathetic.

Nice of you to help out your little pal and be his "white knight" and all...    (eyeroll)

Those who can't handle a little "chops busting" shouldnt put them selves directly in line for it by acting  like a know-it-all and running off at the chops spewing nonsense.   People who do are just asking for it to be pointed out.   And again, if they cant handle a little light-hearted fun being had at their expense, maybe they should see a shrink for depression?

As for the pics, post away!  You like pictures of tiny fingerling bass...  I don't so much care for them, especially when posted by a supposed "trophy slaying" professional.    Anyone else who didn't act as such, nobody wouldve probably said a word and kept thought to self about "runt" fish pics.

But to each his own.

And "most of the day"??   Must be alot fewer hours in your day than mine.

Now you fellers enjoy your evening.   You're popcorn is getting cold...
