night fishing fire

With warmer weather approaching I was wondering where I could find out the rules for having a fire while night fishing in westmoreland county? I heard it was allowed but idk the rules that go along with it. I will be getting the permit, probably on opening day.

Depends on where you are, and the rules for county/state/Army Core are all different. Plus I'm not sure if it's even legal to burn along a waterway but I could be wrong...

This is for County Parks - Twin Lakes, Mammoth, Northmoreland.  Down towards the bottom of the list, no fires except in "designated areas."  Not sure how they define designated areas, but your best bet for county parks would be to get on the website and call one of the contact numbers.

I have built fires along the Yough. I have been checked out by West Newton police as well, but they were only looking for underage drinkers. They have no problem with fires along the river.

As far as the parks go I'm going to go get my night permit soon so I guess I could just ask as I buy it.

Not a single bite. The water was well over 80 degrees. We had live bait in the water as well as dough balls and corn.

Catbass, to fish Virgin Run, Donegal, Acme and every other lake that i'm forgetting, does one night permit work for all or do I have to get separate ones? Last year I was fishing Greenlick and Donegal a lot and hated that I had to leave at dark.

My memory is bad but, I think there is a sign there or I seen something that said open from dawn til dusk. I know I read somewhere that you cannot fish those lakes without a night permit. Am I correct?

yeah you are, at least from my understanding? The permit is $3 at twin lakes boat house or northmoreland park (i think) and it lets you night fish all the westmoreland county park lakes at night. I've seen the fish cops show up a few times while night fishing, they always ask if you have the permit, so it's worth the $3. I have yet to catch anything at night anywhere but i've had a few interesting bites to keep on going lol. I know there's a monster catfish in upper twin lakes just waiting for me to catch him!

Greenlick & Donegal are not under the Westm/d Cnty park rules for nite permits. Greenlick park itself is closed at dark, but is open to nite fishing without a permit because it is in Fayette Cnty. Donegal is a PF&BC lake & has no nite fishing permits required. btw there is no open fires permited at either lake. You will get a citation.  Also don't forget the new rules on wearing a PFD if in a boat under 16' until the end of April.  sam

mr.crappie, thanks for the info. I was not aware of that. Kinda makes me mad that I left. At Greenlick, I started catching a few nice largemouth right at dark but left just because I didn't want to get in any trouble. I sometimes have a hard time finding anything I'm looking for on PFBC website. Maybe it is just me.

Virgin Run is owned by the state and managed by the Fish Commission.
