Bait shops near Shenago
Was wondering if there are any bait and tackle shops near Shenango lake. I'm mostly looking for chubs or shiners... Normally I buy them down here near home the day before, but if I can save the gas then i'd be more than happy to spend the $$$ up there to keep the locals in business. I normally get a dozen shiners roughly 4-6" for about $5 down here, price isn't a huge issue as long as it's reasonable for size and quality. Thanks

Don't know what species of fish that you are using the shiners for at Shenango. The only 2 bait stores around Shenango would be Dave's on Rte 18 and 5 points (1-330-772-3410) right over the Ohio line at 8430 state rte 305. I know that 5 points have them but you'll find that most of the bait stores around the lake cater to crappie fisherman. I've tried to get them to get fat heads for walleye season and was told that they don't sell to big.

A suggestion....use a minnow trap in a stream near you. Put a can of cat food in it and within 20 minutes you,ll have plenty bait.

Thanks Eye crosser I use shiners at the outflow and do pretty well with them for Bass Cats and Pike. It seems the Eyes like chubs alot more up there. And Mika, I usually bring chubs up but only a handful so i don't dry a hole up... Most of the times I go to Six bouys down this way the night before but it's about a 20-30min trip + gas so I will check out those two places.

Your best bet then would be 5 Points. Cross lake on 846 the turn on Hartford Rd. Go straight threw past old school house. Next stop is 5 points. Not far from the beach and Hartford launch. Great hot sausage sandwiches with provolone cheese...:)

Just a heads up river is high and colored now. Keep an eye on regulations special trout waters here in effect. Also all people fishing from the double bridges on up please show some respect for the land you are entering and using. Talked to the land owner Sunday and he had some bad stories about people stealing some trash barrels and some scrap metal and of couse litter. It is and has been open to walk in fishing for many years and it is private property! That strech is not owned by Army Corps and should be treated with some respect. The guy said most people are pretty good about fishing there but a few are testing his kindness. I'm going to get him a new burning barrel and put it down there for him so he can burn some of the litter left there. He also has had people building fires along the river banks. Please do not build fires the timber he has is very nice and the guy is trying to keep it that way. It always amazes me at how a small percentage of people just out right abuse private land ! It's going to be patroled a little more in the future hope it helps. Didn't mean to change the topic.

Captain I tend to avoid using other people property to move along a watershed unless 100% necessary. I don't even leave my garbage in cans that are provided at places like Pymie, I just keep ahold of it and throw it in the dumpsters at the park/rec areas, out of everything that rubs me the wrong way when fishing is when people leave their garbage, at times I want to look at them and say "Hey jagoff, is that what your house looks like to a garbage dump???"
