Pymy ice report

Checked the ice around the lake and its starting to look promising. I may be dumb but I ain't stupid and you won't catch me fishing it yet. Give it a few more cold days and nights. This weekend in my opinion will still not be safe. 3" of clear ice is good enough for me or 4" of mixed ice (2" clear 2" of cloudy).

With that said, north end: linesville marina, 3" with 1 1/2" of each clear and cloudy. Linesville beach, same. Spillway (outside the breaker wall) 3" mix with 1" clear 2" cloudy. Fries boat launch, about the same as linesville area. Tuttle boat launch chunked up and like I said I'm not stupid so I didn't even walk out. Tuttle beach and manning boat launch, the same chunk ice I didn't even walk out. All north end has snow in spots and has some slush in spots.

South end: orchard launch, 2" clear ice. No snow anywhere on the south end that I saw, it's all crystal clear ice. Drove around more of the south end, but didn't check any other spots cause it all looked the same as orchard.

All ice measured with a tape measure not just guessing.

Ill be back out Tuesday (work sat, sun, and mon) to check everything again. Hopefully the rain/warmer temps they're calling for end of next week don't hurt us to bad. Provided we don't get pounded with rain and the night time lows still below freezing we should be good for next weekend.

The worst day hunting or fishing will always be better then the best day at school or work!

good news bad news.decent ice off of manning,3 1/2 inches solid ice.fished sun and mon without a bite and no one else i talked to caught anything either.in my opinion ice should be good for another day or two.sun afternoon fished south of the causeway in 15 feet of water and managed 5 nice crappie and saw two walleye caught.however ice deteriorated and was no good by mon morning.there was probably 20 people fishing manning on mon

Checked some spots on the south end and there was 3 3/4-4" clear ice but the sun is definitely beating it up bad. Snow helps slow the loss due to sun but also slows the building of ice it's a love/hate relationship. Moved north and found a doz guys or so and 4-4.5" of ice. Nobody catching or making fish so I moved and found 4.5-5" and finally marked some fish. They were on the bottom in 13' had one follow up to 10' or so but nothing. Marked others coming through around 10' but couldn't buy a bite today. Ill be back out tomorrow to try it (provided I don't get a call from work).

The last spot I moved to I was the first and only one there till 2 guys saw me out there and come out. It's a well known and fished spot too, that's what surprised me.

Lovetoshoot, Fishinpreacher and I were out there yesterday too.  We started on the north end and I lost a spud bar on the chunk ice about 150 yds off shore.  It went through first poke and the "ice" didn't even slow it down.  Most of that chunk ice was pretty solid, but some areas are very punky...and it won't last past today if the forecast holds up.  Once past the chunk ice, the solid ice was 4-4.25" for the most part (measured with a ruler), although some of the dark ice spots only had 2".  We didn't find any ice that was over 4 1/2" anywhere.

A couple dink perch was it out of the north, so we got some lunch and headed to the south end.  Ice was REALLY variable on the south end, with darker ice patches at 1 1/2"-3" and the milkier ice 4 1/2" or so.  The ice on the south end was good hard clear ice, but like Frost said, the sun was starting to beat it up, especially the white ice near shore.  A couple dink panfish was all we could muster down there.

Fishing-wise, it was the probably the worst full day I've ever had on the ice, but it was a nice day to be out there and I had a good time.

It got cold last night, so this morning will probably be safe in most places, but tread lightly and check ice frequently...I can't imagine any safe ice after today.
