Thanksgiving Morning Phesant hunt

My cousin's boy back home in Williamsport PA, has been raising pheasants to sell. While I was home a few weeks ago for my Grandfather's funeral we got to talking about doing a pheasant hunt while I would be in for Thanksgiving. I asked about bringing my 5yr old along and my cousin told me to bring him and that he had a 410 Corban could shoot if I decided to let him.
So Thursday morning we met at the farmhouse around 8:00 a.m. my boy had a blast catching pheasants in the enclosure with a long handled fishing net, then we took them down to the lower fields and let them go.

To make a long story short we had a great time! My son loved running up and grabbing any birds we shot, even if they were still flapping and kicking! And when one of the guys winged a male the bird could run but not fly, we sort of cornered the bird, I got my cousins 410 and helped my boy tuck the stock under his arm because it was too long for him to shoulder. I helped him aim at the bird, pulled back the hammer, and said "Ok buddy, pull the trigger" when he did it blew the bird over backwards. Corban let out a war cry and ran up and tackled his bird.
We ended up with 7 Pheasants and 4 rabbits that morning between 7 men and 2 boys. All in all it was a terrific way to spend Thanksgiving morning. Here are a few pics. (My boy is the one on the right side of the first pic wearing the orange)

Thanks guys! Tuna, that was our first experience hunting bunnies behind a dog (just never been around them or hunted with anyone who owned one) and I found myself thinging if I could talk my wife into it I just might get the boys a beagle pup some day.

Yea you'll love a little hound. If you do get a pup,buy a pup with good hunting bloodlines, not brace field trial or show dog blood. I've had great males and females,so the choice is yours. My Bella pup is Branko x Big Meadow blood and is rabbit crazy at 7 months,I'm looking foward to rolling some bunnies after Christmas. I'm sure your boys would love to hunt over their own dog, life short before you know it they will be all grown up,I'm glad my son hunted over my dogs and his own dog. We have not had a dog for a couple of years,so where back into it,Good luck with your wife,HaHa.
