Fish USA ICE SALE

Did anyone else get the email from Fish USA about the ice equiptment that they have on sale? If so, I'm in need of 2 new rod & reel combos. That St. Croix seems like a good deal. I don't know anything about the other combo (not the Southbend). I'm kinda interested in the HT blue rods. I heard they are pretty good. That reel that they are offering looks nice, but I can get a Pflueger Micro for the same price, so I would choose that over the Chili Pepper reel. So, would you guys recommend the St. Croix, the other combo (like $27 or something), or the HT blue sticks with Pflueger Micros? I don't want to drop a lot of money into it right now. In fact, I might ask Mrs. Claus for it. I just need to know what to buy. Even $60 for 2 St. Croix combos is pushing it. Are they worth the hype? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Is it for panfish? That's mostly what I am after. What can you tell me about the rod and reel? Carbon blank? Sensitive or more noodley? How long is it? How many bearings does the reel have? I am definately interested. Is $20 including shipping?

Thank you. Does the SC have a reel too, or is it just the rod? Medium sounds like it might be a little heavy for panfish. I would still like to see some pics though.

Ht blue ice rods are sweet for panfish. Very light action. High vis tips, you could be fine without even using a spring bobber.

I hope no one thinks I'm going out and blowing a bunch of money on gear. I have friends and family asking me what to get me for Chistmas, so this is all research. For the last 5 years, I've been ice fishing with homemade rods and I haven't really caught much. I bought some equipment last year and the year before, but I saved up for it for over 2 years. I probably have the least amount of gear of anyone on here. I am just getting ideas and doing research. If I see a really good deal somewhere, I'll tell my wife about it and she can tell the in-laws and maybe I'll get it. Maybe not. I just don't want folks on here to start thinking that I'm blowing money on gear instead of taking care of my family. A member just sent me a PM telling me that I had my priorities mixed up because I was asking questions about gear after the folks on here raised money for my son. I hope no one else took it like that. I didn't even make it out archery hunting this year because I've been working overtime so that I can afford to take Greggy back out to CT in December. I also need money to buy my kids stuff for Christmas. I seldom get more that a total of $100 spent on me (from friends/family combined) for Christmas. This year, maybe some one will buy me an ice rod. Anyway, I won't ask any more questions about gear. I don't want to offend any of the wonderful people that helped me.

Sorry to hear that. Those Ht rods should be in stock at Gander by now, if you wanna feel the action before buying it from fishusa. I use home made ice rods as well, just happened to borrow a couple Ht's a couple seasons ago and really liked them.

Thanks for all of the info bud. I probably won't make it back up to Erie until after Christmas. I've always wanted to stop in there, but I never get the chance. I went to Cabelas once a couple years ago. It was nice. Is GM anything like Cabelas?

I frequent the gm in greensburg. It's no cabelas, but they have a better fishing section than a diks or something.

I'll have to check it out some day. Do you normally fish for panfish? All I've ever caught through the ice was crappie, perch, and gills. I'd like to catch an 'eye or two some day. I heard that people fish for steelhead through the ice all of the time. That would be a blast, I think.

All I've ever caught through ice are panfish, stocker trout, and lm bass. Im pretty new to ice fishing, only been at it for 4 years and I really don't travel far or often for it. The only winter walleye I've caught were from the rivers around Pittsburgh. BTW a 15"lm will bend one of those Ht rods almost 90deg straight out of the handle! They're certainly not made for bass, but it was fun and it didn't break.

Thanks Eman. Sounds like you are the guy to go to when I finally get around to trying steel through the ice. That sounds like a blast.

FishinGuy, sounds like that LM was fun! I hope to get into some of that one day.
