Yep. This whole trip cost me less than $50. The gas was $60 split 3 ways (my share was $20), the license $15, so that's $35, and then I had to buy some food and drink. Bait was provided and lodging too. It's great to have friends. This trip was a dream come true. I never thought it would happen.

I didn't even know what kind of fish it was until 2 hrs after I caught it! LOL! I had no idea how big it was either until a couple of natives saw it on my stringer and said, "Holy crap! That's the biggest coho I've ever seen! I've been fishing for 30 years and never seen one that big! Hey Joe! Come over here and see the size of this coho that this guy caught!" LOL! Too bad I couldn't afford to get it mounted. I loved that hooked jaw!

You are absolutely right on all three counts! The fish weren't there the day before. They started running the very day that I got there. It was the first salmon run I've ever seen. It was amazing! I saw thousands of fish. You'd look downstream and see a 10" wave coming UPSTREAM! I just stood there like a fool for a minute watching them until by buddy poked me with his fishing rod and said, "Don't just stand there drooling! Catch some fish!" The goofy grin covered my face and stayed there for the rest of the day. I'll never forget this trip if I live to be 100. Amazing. You guys that live up there are truly lucky. I'm going to do everything I can to make this a yearly trip, even if I have to sell a kidney. LOL!

My buddy just got back from another trip up there. He caught a 20lb brown and an atlantic salmon. Those were the trophies. He caught a TON of browns. The smallest he saw caught by anyone all weekend was over 8lb.

Smally, that would have been October 6. It was a Saturday. We were at the second bridge also. And yes, it was like that for us too. I was seeing pods of 5-100 fish come through at a time, maybe spaced 1-3 minutes apart. I can't even guess as to how many kings I landed. I definitely understand having sore arms after 4 days of it. The browns are in now. In a BIG way. I hope they are still there when you go back. Let me know.

Slab that looks like an awesome trip! Congrats!
I have wanted to get up to NY and try my luck at some kings for several years now, just hasn't worked out. Maybe next year.
Anyway congrats again on what looks and sounds like an incredible trip.

Thanks guys! It was a lot of fun. I can't remember smiling so much. I probably haven't been that proud of a catch/kill since I dropped my black bear in 2001. It really is something special to have a dream come true like that.
