Odd Turkey Behavior...

Well at least I thought it was odd...
On September 5, in a field near my house (Venango County, PA), I witnessed 13 turkeys feeding.  Within the group of 13, there were 6 gobblers and they ALL were strutting...  4 of the 6 were jakes, 2 were long-beards.  I've never witnessed gobblers strutting this time of year.  Is this odd turkey behavior or is it fairly normal?

While it is not common, it is not all that rare for gobblers to both strut and gobble in the fall. Actually, they will do it to some degree any time of the year.

I've seen the occasional bird break into a quick little strut and stretch just about any time of year.  But this was odd,  they were strutting back and forth, their heads were all blue, it was like springtime again.  I'm thinking the youngsters were showing off and the 2 older fellows but the smack down on them.
