Maybe not the doves, but there were so many geese on the pond in front of the Vets Hospital in Hollidaysburg by noon on Saturday, one could not see any water. There were probably several hundred that got the message and headed for safety.
The poster formally known as Duncsdad Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Never hunted doves but see a lot on the farm I hunt. I should try it some time I guess.
The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

If there is a creek near your hunting area, try it there. Preferably near a wooded area is best. Scout around where you hunt at for a perching tree. For some reason, they often congregate in a single tree and they will frequent that tree. Set up your decoys about 50 yards from that area and stand in the middle of the tree and your spread. Don't shoot them when they are trying to land in the tree. Hunt on tractor lanes if it is safe to do so. They often land in these areas to pick up fallen grain from the tractors and to hunt for food. It's great fly over shooting. Wear camouflage and keep your face covered up. These are a few things I do in the early season.

We try and find the perching wire. We hunt them in the field, preferably a cut pasture as the short grass makes it easy to find yer birds. Find fresh cut corn and you'll find doves. Put yerself between the perch and the food. Best stand is usually the telephone pole. You can take shoots off of tall shrubs and make a blind and stick it in the field. The more dove hunters the merrier, as you can keep em flyin this way. Never really felt the need to use decoys, if you find the rite setup and flock of birds. BH

I look for cut grain fields and you will have all the shootin you need, I would also hunt gravel pits with water holes they would come in for stones and water after eating, have also hunted grape vinyards and got lots of doves.
