Can you hunt squirrels with 22 shorts?

I know this may sound like a dumb thing to ask, but I'm not familiar with the rifle. My dad pasted away several years ago, and he left me this rifle. It's really a nice one, but it's about 70 years old and I don't want to leave it in my gun case to go to waste. So is there something I can do with it, except target practice? Thank you.

    Check the regulations book more thoroughly than I did, but . . .

    Says this on p.12:
    Manually operated rifles and handguns .23 and less calibers;

    Unless it's otherwise specified that I'm not aware of, I'd say you're OK.

    That's no problem, I have 12 boxes of them.

    Thanks everyone for answering my post. I know I can hunt with them, but my concern is if there is enough power behind them to kill something and how close do I have to be to my target. I know the shorts are hard to find, and everyone is using 22 longs for the most part.  I'll play around with it and find out. I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. Thanks again.
