Salmon Runs in Oak

I come up a couple times every year to fish for browns in November and december but this year with work and everything we would like to come up earlier and try to fish for salmon. We were thinking in the middle of october is that going to be our best bet? Usually by november they are zombified lol Thanks, Ed

A 9FT  rod is plenty and for salmon id beef up the line a little 8-12 other then that its just like fishing for steel
