Whirpool hole ?

I live in NW,PA. and was wondering if you can still access the NY side of the Whirlpool hole from the low end of the park or is this closed to the public now? We used to go over the railing and climb down to the river in the early 90s loved fishing there. Was working up there one year building aerial CATV and fiber optic  from Oct -Jan and some local guys turned my foreman and myself on to some of the most memorable fishing I have had. Unbelievable runs in the current and the chase down the side of the river to land the fish.  Was hoping to pick up a week nonresident salmon permit this year and go . Just don't know if you can still do this . Thank You

Why go over the railing when you can just go down the stairs?

Didn't know there were steps at the park. Only knew of the steps cut into the rock at Devils hole.

If you are looking over the railing facing the whirlpool follow the railing around to your right a short distance and you'll come to the steps. Ive also went ocer the railing before. Centerpindaddy, why use a centerpin when you can use a fly rod?

You seriously use a fly rod at the Niagara??? Not to start a fly vs. pin argument, but I can swing a modified husky jerk or weightless spinner that would be really hard to do with a fly rod. Plus the drag on flyline in fast heavy water like the Niagara has to be frustrating.

Never said I use a fly rod at the Niagra, someone failed 6th grade reading comprehension. I was just simply stating the point that everyone has their own way of doing things. Some people climb over the railing and some go down the steps, some people like to use a fly rod and some like to use a center pin. To each their own.
