Edinboro Lake mid-June Bass Fishing?

I've done plenty of research on Edinboro and learned a little from older posts on this forum (thank you all contributors). I am staying on the lake for one week in mid-June. I'll have access to free row boat/canoe/kayak rentals. Unfortunately nothing with a motor.

Having never fished here, I was hoping to get some advice on the bass fishing. Targeting smallies and LM, I really know nothing about this lake. Read a bit on this forum about spinner baits in weeds, and evenings around the cemetery. Maybe I can catch my first musky ever?

Any info on water clarity / visibility? How about general lake depths, channel(s), and interesting deep water structure? Been told about the fingers on the North end but that area looks very shallow. Might be better off cranking / d-shotting / jigging deep.

I will be hitting Presque Isle some days for smallies, but if conditions are questionable I'll fish Edinboro 10-12 hours a day. If I can't put at least a trolling motor on the row boats, I'll be somewhat limited each day to how far I can take the row boats. Will be staying on the East side near Edinboro Lake Resort, just North of the cemetery it appears. An Edinboro U grad advised me to try the campus lake for LM as well.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

It is my opinion that Edinboro Lake is not a premier lake. I feel if your hitting PI then keep your sites set on that. The lake is poorly managed from the municipalities in the area.

Last weekend the weeds were matted so thick around the whole lake, I went there tonight 99% of the weeds are gone. Either washington twp or the boro hit the lake with a healthy dose (if there is such a thing) of weed killer for the triatholon. It worked the water is crystal clear, but the color looks black from the bottom matt of dead weeds.

There is a good population of bass, i hope they start hitting for you I have always found everything shuts down from the weed killer they put in.

Also if you do put a motor on your free rides make sure the boat is registered with the PFBC. they will write you a ticket for not having stickers on a powered boat.

I have a hydrograph map of Edinboro lake at 1 ft intervals.  Some good info will get you the map.  I fish conneaut lake, pymy, edinboro, woodcock, and erie.  I actually have maps of every lake now except woodcock.  Good luck fishing!

Thanks for the info anzomcik. That doesn't sound too promising. Maybe I'll try it the first day and if it sucks on Edinboro, I'll just stick to PIB. Main reason I'm doing the trip is to get on Erie as much as possible anyway.

I've fished Conneaut a bit from shore years ago. I've done OK, but I've had enough shore fishing. Anyone know if they have boat rentals? I'll PM regarding the map.

FYI quick report from this week. I fished Edinboro Lake about 8 different times, mostly evenings after returning from Presque Isle, almost entirely from shore. I had a few good nights for numbers - about 12-15 largemouth the first 3 nights each, mostly 8-14", mostly on plastics.

One night I took a paddle boat out and around 9pm nailed a nice 3# plus LM not far from shore. My biggest of the year (I know nothing to get excited about). It pulled me around in the paddle boat for a minute or two, pretty cool experience. I didn't really get out at all on the lake by boat unfortunately.

It is still pretty weedy, I fished about half the way around the lake from different spots on shore. and it's hard not to get into weeds and grass, a fair amount floating around the shallows too that's hard to avoid.

Edinboro holds some huge largemouth and I mean huge. Its a good lake to fish but can take years to be really successful on it.

+1...I fished this lake nearly every day for many years and is actually a pretty easy lake to pattern with a little time in.  The walleye fishing can be very good too, but because of the thick benthic layer (dead oxygen-free area on bottom) during the warmer months, normal walleye patterning doesn't really apply.

I FISHED ALMOST EVERY DAY AT EDINBORO LAKE DURING COLLEGE YEARS AND THAT PLACE PRODUCES SOME MONSTERS.   i CAUGHT PLENTY OF 20+INCH lg FROM SHORE. I WORK WITH TEENS AND OFTEN TAKE THEM TO FISH THE BOAT PIERS ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE LAKE.  ITS ALWASY EXCITING TO SEE THEIR FACES WHEN A BASS IS LANDED.  pLASTICS TEXADS RIGGED IS USUALLY THE SET UP..
