Kooser State Park

I am considering going camping with my family at either Laurel Hill State Park or Kooser this weekend.  I have passed by Kooser many times but never actually been there.  I like the idea of camping close to Kooser Run so I can sneak out for short times and do some fishing by myself and also I was wondering how the lake is.  I would like to take my family to the lake and do some fishing with my 10 - year old daughter.  I've seen in some older postings that the lake is clear and great for fishing and I've read that it gets overgrown by vegetation sometime around this time of year.  Has anyone been out there lately or is familiar enough with the lake to give an informed opinion?  I am trying to get her into fishing so I really want to avoid having a bad experience.  Also, how is the campground compared to Laurel Hill SP and does its proximity to Highway 31 mean that you get to hear trucks and traffic all night?  Thanks,

Brent

There was some sort of news/update about beach at kooser being closed due to an issue with the water level.  I believe it had something to do with the amount of silt in the lake.

The beach at Kooser was closed or is still closed due to high algae content, but the rest of the park including fishing was allowed.   sam

I was at Laurel Hill one day last week and they were only allowing wading up to knee high at that time.  Don't know if it's changed yet.  There's no way you would hear any traffic noise from Rt. 31 at Laurel hill.  At Kooser I'm not sure where all the cabins are but I think it might be a possibility.

the cabins are a couple hundred yards off 31 with a creek between them and the road. i can't imagine that it's too loud. i personally never stayed there, but then i live 10 minutes away. so it's kinda dumb for me to camp there.  i know 1 board member stays there every year with his family. they like it.
