Lets see some turks

Do to working this past weekend didn't manage to hunt Saturday. But today the birds were hot and I managed this 2 yr old with a 9 inch beard and inch spurs. [image][/image]

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I had a very quick season. I went to my camp in Ohiopyle Friday and headed in to a spot on the mountain that I had seen several birds in the prior weeks. I saw 4 hens and a nice gobbler and heard them fly up to roost. Back in early and at 615 he gobbles. I do a couple soft tree yelps and then a fly down. One of his hens almost landed on me. She was mad at the new girl that she couldn't see. Two other hens came over and I could see him on the ground at 60yds. He struts over to me gobbling two more times when I decided 20 yds was close enough at 6:30.

    10" beard
    19 lbs.

    Hello Pork....

Unbeknown to all of us an unnamed source says
that someone has dropped small watches for helicopters with alarms that activate at noon. ALL turkeys should have gotten theirs before April 15th.

I fell asleep once 3 years back and awoke to a hot gobbler within 20 yards. He was answered by another, then another, and another. All in all there were seven different gobblers with in 100 yards of me. I gave a few yelps and two came a running from different directions. Something told me to check how much time I had left. OH SHIP !!!
It was 12:20 also.....Came back next day and whacked one

I did whack mine this morning @ 6:30

    18 lbs
    3/4 inch spurs
    8 1/2 inch beard

Hunted 4 out of the past 5 days. Saturday i saw 2 nice gobblers too far to shoot. Monday was a very quiet day. Tuesday i got soaked and had 3 jakes come to 60 yds no shot. Wednesday i played with 2 gobblers at 10:30 and they would not come to me. Quite an irritating season so far!

One maddening thingie bout Toms when they are Henned up.
Ya can talk to them for a very long time across a field or whatever and they do NOT come in -they will sit there and Gobble back to you and not move. Sometimes they seem to just walk away- they are with the hens and follow them around.
OOOOPPPPPSSSSS -Hey__ they got you marked. They will eventually do their business with the Hens they are with and if you wait it out- sometimes for a coupla hours or more-- they WILL come to you as often as not ( other real birds out there competing with ya )- Often they will go silent and come into you on the sneak so dont fall asleep waiting.
This is a case that have had good luck using one Decoy and siting tight without moving locations.. Have also had lesser Toms who have apparently been kicked around by the big loud guy sneak in real quiet while waiting it out.
Example- how many times have ya left and later on heard a Tom pretty much right where ya were sitting and calling earlier--had ya marked an he's callin an lookin for ya.
            Tookies can make ya nuts.

Its the hardest thing Steelie to sit there and hear the action someplace else. Ya feel that if ya dont get up an move your done for the day. Those rascals got one thing on their mind this time of year and if they hear ya and answer believe me --your on their bucket list.

I saw my first dead one this year and heard of another local one killed. Those are the first ones I have ever heard of in the area and I have never seen one alive. Neither had as much white as that one. If that one was mine it would already be at the taxidermists. Just too cool.

It is a domestic turkey called a Royal Palm.

It might have been one that escaped captivity but it most certainly is a domestic instead of a wild turkey.

No wonder it looks so natural. The dead one I saw came in with two others in the ANF and had most of the white on the smaller feathers on the wings. Without looking at that ones legs I'am not sure how you could tell the difference between wild and domestic if the weight was typical of a wild bird. Maybe shot with the bow on a hunt reserve? It is a neat looking bird.

Since it's a tame bird,I'd say you would not have to tag it? Right ? I've seen these tame bird on a farm before, and it takes a long time to get a beard that big. That turkey is really big 35 lbs plus maybe.

Nice birds...... I let off some yelps a half hour ago to see what was around for the hunt tomorrow morning and heard nothing. I am sitting her and look out front and a 10" long beard is walking up Roberts Hollow Road. He jumped the guide rail and walked 15 feet from my window. WHERE the hell did I put that crossbow....LOL...Hope he hangs around, I want to help get my buddy his first bird in the A.M..........

We hit the woods at 5:50. Not a sound.....
8:15 Went for a walk, decided to locate and close.
Walked 1/2 mile in deeper and heard 2 gobbling out 1/2 and 3/4's of a mile.
Picked up our pace and we were where the first bird was and spooked 4 deer. The snorted and ran up the hill.
Headed for the furthest gobbler. He had that deep guttural gobble, you know the one, that makes you all warm inside. We closed to within 50 yards. 8:30 and he is still roosted????
Had my buddy close in the last 25 yards solo.
We were on a bench and Big Bird was on the next bench down, so I figured we were about eye level. Gave a few purrs...no answer???
    Gave a few yelps....HE LIKEY....
My buddy closed in another 10 yards and belly crawled to the edge of the bench. He said he could see him in some grape vines, but no shot. He however estimated the beard at 12". The bird moved left into clear view and he took the shot.
    WELL?? Did you get him???
    I think so....
    Where was he??
    Right down there !!!
    UMMMM near that leaning tree...
    YEP right there.
    UMMMM that's +50 yards.....
    Gobbler fever got him......
