Best place I've seen is at the dam.

In front of the parking lot, at the upper 528 launch. Or wading the old roadbed to the right of that launch.

Really the lake's so full of them, I don't think there IS a not good spot for them.

Lol, I was getting that feeling while reading the replies! :) I think maybe I'll target them this year, I've never done that before on Arthur. I see one guy who fishes them regularly and always comes out with a cooler full between 12" and about 18" long.

    Luvin.

You don't really have to "target" them ( at least I don't ). Just fish the typcal top water Striper baits in most of the same areas. The only thing I would do specifically different, would be to fish directly over those shallow weedbeds, rather than the edges. Also slow down your retrieve, even stopping occasionally.

While the average size has been getting smaller as the population increases, !2-18 inches seems pretty small. They generally range 5-6 pounds for me ( used to be 6-8 ) with lots of bigger ones mixed in.

I've helped guys weigh cats up to 14 pounds during the day, I can't imagine what comes out at night. I don't often catch them while fishing for other species, not in any numbers anyway, although I know that a lot of guys do. I'd like to test my "never fail super duper cat bait" up there. It is my number one on the three rivers and I'd like to see what it does up there.

I never sit when I fish and rarely even stand still, so I'm bringing the chair with the cup holder to see if I can stand it! :-)

(I'll probably have to bring the Hibachi too)

I would have to say cut sunfish and bluegills are the best for day time. At night use a topwater bait such as spook or bomber and just cast let sit for a few that will get a couple big channels. the only thing with the lures the hooks wil get wasted after a few cats.

If you ever find a freezer burned deer steak that you missed in the freezer from two years ago, cut it up and use it for cat bait.  Works great.

If using live bait try to stay with larger baits like Gills,Suckers, large Chubs, Shad & the Alewife is great right after the Big Byrds are done feedin' the shallows. When using night crawlers, Shiners or minnows the Bullheads are a pain in the butt & can still be a pain with the larger baits at times.

Think the PAB&FC might have finally decided to quit stockin' 'em last yr. seeing that they are reproducing on their own. Purdy sure it was the most stocked (Channels) waterway in the state since 1969.

    crappy

Tried for a few Cats this eve/night with Suckers & very large Chubs & could only manage to catch some Hog Large Mouths

Sorry just me again... A couple young dudes were trying for Cats tonight using Chicken Livers & could only catch Hybird Striped Bass's. Debating whether or not to head out at 1:00 am. for some top water or not. The lake didn't have any surface action as ov 10:00 pm. where I tried this eve. Great way to start off my anniversary

    crappy

Other than tonight the nights are supposed to be getting down below freezing 'till Mon. So might be better off waiting until later next week for better odds on the Cats.

The biggest fish Ive ever caught in that lake were carp and channel cats. These guys are right, ANYWHERE is fine. The dam is a good hot spot. Muddy creek behind it is where you'll catch some MASSIVE blues. Just respect that area. Also, anywhere around 528 will do you good. Cut bluegills or chicken livers is what I have the most luck on.

Blues in muddycreek sounds like a good BLUES TUNE LOL Yeah other than that you would NOT be catching any blue cats in the lake.

chum up an area with some canned sweet cone (corn) - @ 6lbs the night before you plan on fishing.
Fish it the next day, you'll catch a busload of them...............

Wife and I fished near the wind surfing area Mon night targeting cats. Wife got about a 20" channel 5min after we got there, then we were plagued by bullheads and other small fish the rest of the evening. is this a decent area for them or should we have been in a bay? She even somehow landed a 5" gill on liver using a 5/0 circle hook. Did get a couple nice bass on chubs. Saw some surface activity in the evening but its the first time I fished this lake, not sure how dense of an alewife school I'm looking for to hit some wipers(I'm assuming they're pretty thick when you find em?) Threw an X-walk for a while w no hits. Moon was very bright.
