DarDys, anadromous,skip..help?
What do you fly tiers do to keep your dry flies, nymphs and streamers fresh? DarDys and skip, do you keep your dry flies in the fridge to keep them fresh and last longer? has your wife ever complained finding them in a plastic container in the vegetable drawer or strung out attached to the styrofoam egg carton? i used to keep my dries in snuff cans but my friends quit chewing so i'll have to keep them in plastic shot glasses. is it ok to mix hackle colors and will they keep better in the butter compartment or just any door shelf? How many baitfish patterns do you guys keep inside the bugger barn streamer box so they don't get crowded and start to sour? i got a tip to drill a few small holes in the plastic so they can breath, is this necessary? anadromous, do you soak your egg patterns in water and then freeze them in a plastic zip lock so they don't get stale? what about the nymphs you use? is it ok to keep them in a dry container in the freezer so they don't dry out and deteriorate? i've been keeping them in my cigar humidor to keep them fresh but i think the cigar odor isn't that appealing to the fish. do you guys wake up at 3:00 in the morning just to tie fresh flies for the days outing?

I stopped tying flies a very long time ago, now I just swat them.

I use the "just in time" inventory control system. I tie them just in time to go fishing or guiding, then come home without any. They never get a chance to linger in my boxes.

Now I see why my catch rate per hour is down. Christ I'm using stale flies...

Jerry seriously the best advice I can give you I got from a friend in about 1985 I think it was..His name was Marty..or maybe it was Emmett I forget one of the 2. That was when I had hair way back when,,, This is it! This is the answer. It says here... that a bolt of lightning is going to strike the clock tower at precisely 10:04pm, next Saturday night! If... If we could somehow... *harness* this lightning... *channel* it... into the flux capacitor... it just might work. Next Saturday night, we're sending all of your flies into a state of anti animation. They will last you forever....

A lot of good advice here. But one can also go the simple route. You can, if you are desperate, keep your flies in a ziplock bag while fishing. Just make sure that you close all the bags when leaving the stream because no one wants to see you walk into a restuarant with... ..............................................................................................................an unzipped fly.

Be careful when purchasing Gink. Some fill-in salespeople have been documented to overcharge by as much as 10 cents per bottle.
