POW/MIA

So I'm opening up here a bit.....

When I was at the One Fly - Jack talked to me a bit about doing one - POW/MIA. Since that time in the parking lot of the hotel - it hasn't left my mind... kind of consumed me and there's a reason for it.

When I was a young lad - about 9 or 10 years old there was a young man about 10 years my senior who kind of became a mentor to me. He knew that I was just getting into tying and he would always bring me feathers and fur after he went hunting. Took me fishing too and there were many times when we would share a long moment sitting along the stream bank just talking. Then one day - I'll never forget it - we were out on the creek and he told me that he was going away for a few years. Told me that he was going to a far away place to help fight a war that didn't make sense. I didn't understand it and neither did he - but he still left.

And as the first year went by - we kept in touch with letters - my writings talked about family, fishing, and the times we shared in the past. He would always write back although his letters always took a long time to get to me. I remember he would always write about home and how much he missed it. He would never write about what he was seeing or what he was going through.

Then the word came that he was missing and I never saw him again.

This all is tough to write....

So for the past two weeks, I've been working on something to honor him and all the others.

I hope and I pray that I did them justice.

all I can say is WOW.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.
