NW PA Black Bear Study

https://sites.google.com/site/nwpabearstudy/

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has suggested the population of black bear in Pennsylvania has steadily increased over the last few years. Sightings of and conflicts with black bear in western Pennsylvania has also increased. To further understand this phenomena, we are comparing land use patterns with the occurrence of encounters using GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Think GPS and Google Earth.

From the data we collect and analyze, maps will be created identifying areas of potential black bear encounters with the public and hunters as well. Changes in land cover and use will also be analyzed as well.

Any account you can offer would be great for this project and we can also provide you with the results from this study. Ideally we are looking for events that have happened within the past 5 to 6 years.

Please take a few minutes to fill this out:

If not so much of the land up in NW PA wasn't posted then more bears would be taken. I see the bear numbers only to rise in many areas.
