NW PA Coyote Study

As coyote become part of Pennsylvania's natural landscape, Pennsylvanians are interacting with coyote, and sometimes for the first time.  Unfortunately, there is very little research on coyote in PA, and even less on the coyote-human relationship in PA.  Therefore, the purpose of this survey is to fill some of those gaps with the knowledge and opinions of people from the NW PA region.   We are specifically looking at the northwestern Pennsylvania area, but are more than happy to collect data from anyone in western PA.   We are hoping to get an overview of potential coyote population, hunting methods, coyote behavior towards humans, peoples' opinions and knowledge of coyote, and other general coyote-human interactions in NW PA to help fill the research gap.  
  
You do not have to be a hunter of coyote to take this survey.  Please feel free to pass it along to your family and friends.  Everyone's opinion is important.

    Thank you for you're input and thank you for moving it.  I wasn't sure what forum to put it in that the most people would see it and take the survey.

    I agree with Pork, they are getting more and more plentiful and getting closer and closer to people. We had some in the back yard a couple of weeks ago, so far they've left the chickens alone... Saw my first one about 20 years ago, not real hard to find these days...

    IMO, too much predation on whitetails. They are getting out of control. Shoot a deer and have to fight the coyotes for it.

    Almost had one last Friday AM from my stand. It hit the trail I walked in on at 25 yds and was gone in a flash.

    I was at a gun range a about 10 years ago sighting in my HK PSG-1 with nightscope and asked a game commissioner a few questions.
    1. Could I use this semi-auto 308 if only chambered with 1 round and no clip?
    2. Is nightscope legal?
    3.Can I shoot a coyote over a gut pile?

    He asked if I had a pistol permit then said if I was carrying they would have no way of telling which gun I shot it with.
    He was not sure about nightscope but thought it would not be a problem if I did not use infrared illuminater.
    For shooting over a gut pile he was not sure if that was baiting or not but personally would not have a problem with it and would not know if I did not tell him.

    Other officers might have a problem with this but I think they are just glad to get rid of a few.

    Thank you!  It is very interesting.  We appreciate all that have responded so far.  The human/animal relationships is such an interesting topic to us and we value everyone's knowledge and opinions.
