non slip loop knot
Anyone ever use a nonslip loop knot for streamers or nymphs? I tried one the other day. It lets the streamer vibrate in the current, nice action. But I lost a really nice fish by the line breaking at the eyelet, not at the knot. I was wondering if it might be stronger at the eye if you take it through the eye twice, similar to a trilene knot. Anyone ever try this?

Pete Is this what you are using? aka The Rapala knot? This one works for me when fishing streamers, I use a short piece of 3 x tippet or maxima ultragreen if the water is up. Never had an issue...if you aren't using it try this one.

Perfection is where I ran into problems, then I switched to the above and haven't had an issue.

Yep, that's what I was using. Wet it too. It broke right at the eye, almost like it was snipped. It's possible the steelie's teeth got it I guess. The next one I hooked I landed, and the fly was pretty deep. I had 6 lb. maxima on too. They were jumping out of the undercut bank right at sunrise one morning, and the day before, just before dark. Will try it again. Thanks.

Pete It is literally a "fine line" when attached to the hook eye, it could have been the teeth or just a mishap on that one...let us know how you make out otherwise. just a side note, I usually give a tag end a pull to snug up any looseness in the knot, as this can occur fairly easy as well.

I us the non slip mono on my musky streamers. I never had a problem with breakage but those non slips are tyed with 80 lbs. flouro. Its a strong knot.

Maybe the inside of the hook eye had a burr or rough spot. It may have also gotten caught in the gap where the eye wraps around back to the hook. It may have had a sharp spot there too.
I don't give a crap if anybody listens to me or not.

I only ever had one ns-mono -loop break. The loop was too large for my liking but fished it anyway. I was using 12 lb. fluoro. Same thing. The knot was intact and the loop broke at the eye.

this is what i use for buggers and streamers. helps to let the streamers move more freely and can change streamers quickly. i even use the smaller sizes on wulff and humpy dries in rough water and bigger sizers for poppers for bass

no knot fas-snap. med works up to #10 #9672 hooks. for poppers and bigger hooks i use the large size. sometimes if i'm fishing nymphs in dirty water i use the small size. the small size is good for the under #10 hooks and big deer hair dry flies.

Even on big musky tandem 6/0 they tend to keep there selves from fouling on the non slip mono loop. Fouling has never been a real issue.
