lead split shot

headed to the oak this weekend was told by a guy lead split shot is illegal in new york streams. Any truth to this? Thanks

    not true. you can use it in the streams in NY. you just cant buy it in NY

    Same thing was said to me LAST year. I politely told him that, "You may not be allowed to buy or sell lead in the state of NY but you can use it if you have it." Tin shot suxs anyways so if your plannin a trip, stock up before you go, just sayin'........

    Not for nuthin, but "locals" try to quote the fishing regs to me all the time. Whether it's the lead law or fishing start time. Like I(we) dont have the commonsense to know the laws, just sayin'....

    He was just prolly sum pin-bagger disappointed that he couldnt get his 100yrd drift, just sayin'.............

    Can you explain how a guy from Pa that is heading to,not at,the Oak being told that lead is illegal has got anything to do with "locals"?

    It really doesnt have anything to do specifically, BUT I've ran into guys that couldnt wait to let me know that they live in Lockport, Buffalo or wherever closer than Pa. The lead thing is like an icebreaker.... Just to say, "Hey, goodmorning. You know you cant use lead here. I know this cause I live 10 minutes away." or sumthing along those lines.... just sayin'

    ya definetly bring shot..foam floats are hard to come by too. Sinker has sum but not the "tooth pick" style, just sayin'

    Just got back from the oak , and you CAN use lead shot in NY . You can NOT buy it there .If you smoke , buy em before you leave pa , a pack costs $11 in NY .

    Buy on one of the reservations or better yet- quit

    I bartended in NY state in the early 80's
    When cigarettes hit $1 a lot of people were going to quit
    They kept buying just complained more
