ice predictions 2011

well last year i was on the hard water here in cambria county on december 13th

so i figured i would try to help the cold weather by posting my safe ice prediction for this year... i think we here in south central pa will have safe ice and be fishing on december 15th
maybe as soon as december 7th on local farm ponds with slab and jumbo harvests at an all time high... i also feel that the walleyes will be more cooperative this season with catches reaching close to if not exceeding 5 per trip... bluegills will be plentifull as always with some baby moons in the mix good luck this year on the ice and as always be careful

Dec-10th in the ADK's for sure.. Always good (4") on smaller waters in high elevations by second week in December.. Bigger waters (300 acre) by Christmas.. Can't wait !!

Can't in all honesty make a prediction for when safe ice will arrive. Read an article in the morning addition of the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat stateing that the unexpected return of La Nina in the Pacific Ocean surprised the writers of the Old Farmerrs Almanac, who changed their 2011-2012 winter prediction several weeks ago, and now is causing headaches for forcasters using the latest equipment. The NOAA has stated that "Sitting here in October, there's really no way of knowing what we'll get (in the Northeast) in December.
Indications are it may be a harsher winter in New England states and farther north. Areas that had plenty of snow last year likely will have that again this year. Mike Halpert, deputy director of the NOAA furthur stated that "It's not good news but that's th way things are favoring."
I sure hope he's wrong. Way too much snow around these parts of Cambria county last winter. Cold enough to make good ice, but I could do without the extream cold and snow.

I also fish Duman's dam, both hard and soft water, have for many years. We probably crossed paths at one time or another.

5 bills a Month , dude you need to insulate (more) or find an alt heat source..
I have a huge old house and did both and it pays for it's self in just 1 year without feeling cold inside,no drafts.. I walk around in underware with it being 75 in the house all winter long.. IT PAYS FOR IT'S SELF..

As for winter perdictions.. Still, always in the ADK's above 1,000 feet there WILL be safe (4") Ice first week in Dec.. Marcy has had snow on the peaks for over a week now..
For the last 4 years we have been on larger lakes before Christmas with SOLID ice..

I don't mind and really like cold temps over snow.. At least when it's cold the Ice is Nice, the heat is nice and if not just put another log on the fire and watch football..
Snow sucks !! I'm not a skier so I have no use for snow. It kills the Ice, makes work plowing, walking through and driving in it blows..

Bring on the Cold, send all the snow to PA..lol..

big i'm sure we have i always fish in the middle of the breast hard or soft water but when the ice is safe on yellow creek or glendale i spend all my time there kinda just use it to scratch the itch

tuna the snow can spen all the time here it wants but remember the more snow we get the more new york gets lol.. also if it wasn't for the old lady keeping the thermo on 70 all winter is what killed my wallet so this year i'm buying her a buddy heater and maybe an ice hut lol

We were on ice the weekend before Christmas here in Central PA.. There were guys out a couple weekends before me but it was thin ice in my opinion, anything less than 4 isn't seeing my feet on them intensionally anyway
