Fall Wading

Hey Guys,

We had an exceptional spring catching walleye while wading and I was wondering if anyone has tried in the fall. I know some of the bigger walleye will come up shallow and gorge themselves before it gets "real cold", but wondered if anyone has had any luck with this technique and if you do anything different than in the spring.

Thanks

How far below the dam? I was there a couple of years ago in the spring and people were catching them down from the walking bridge. I fish there in the summer but only get panfish.

actually from main dam downstream,,below small spillover is good,, i prefer crossing walk bridge and fish that side of stream, better drift,,,fish as far down as you desire,,a few good holes,,i have fished that section downstream as far as greenville, all good,,,fall is here, walleye will start showing up...

The waters up some at 2100 and just guessing by the amount of rain in the past week probably has some color to it too. When you get back post how you did. I was planning on going up this weekend but decided to go up next weekend instead.

Well we hit the river at pyme from about 2-430 yesterday afternoon. One 2 foot carp and a couple keeper crappie is all we had to show for our efforts. We moved up to the lake after that and did some wading. We managed two keeper walleye and a big smalmouth, all 18", even the smally. We got him on a yellow twister tail and the eyes on a 4" grandma lure in charteuese. All 3 fish were caught within 10 minutes of each other. It was like they turned on a switch and flipped it back off. Caught them 20 min after sunset.

Oh yea..the walleye were full of 3" shad.

Gotta love the Fall. Bagged a limit ov Bushy Tails in 70 min.. A stray cat stole 2 out ov my game bag on the front porch while I went in to put my waders on. Then went wadeing the local lake & had a nice stringer ov Jumbos/Gills/Crappie & let go a Pike & some L/M in less than 2 hrs. Caught all with soft plastics & the old 410.

Sounds like fun Kevin. I hope to throw the Sports Pal in the van after lunch tomorrow & relax on the water while after Perch. Haven't had it out yet this yr.  Supposed to fish that old pay lake (from the 70's) over in Hooker with it this weekend if my buddy comes up.

     Cold Front,

I go purdy cheap on the rods, I'd go through to much money breaking the more expensive ones out there & they can't hold up to the  7' Ugly Stik Lite Pro in ultra lite mod. I use the most. Second I use the old brown Fenwicks with the cork handle, like the play (fight) the Panfish give it. Gonna use a 7' 3wt Fenwick tomorrow for Perchin'. On the reels nothin' special either, 1st choice is the smaller Shimano Stradic but the cheap Okuma Stratus StX20 works just fine but don't have the life span ov the Stradic.  Before I die I wanna invest in wanna them there Ugly Stik Crappie rods for hittin' brush piles from the boat. Anybody have one & how do you like it?

Just took a quick count ov some rods in my kids room (53) & I think most all are over $100 bucks. Who knows how many more he has layin' 'round here???

    Gotta go slice fish now

Thanks Big Ben...It seemed like a lot of casting for 5 keepers but the walleye put up a fight like 5 pounders. And the smally jumped like 3 times. Pretty exciting 10 minutes, but like I said, A LOT of casting.
