holy coho!
Just heard from a friend that has some people standing in dsr right now (4:45) saying there is one massive run of coho pushing through now. My friend is pulling into the lot in 15 minutes. When he says massive he doesn't see just 20 fish. Hint\wink
Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

There were as reported last Sat about 4>5 thousand ho's that ran so what is massive ? How many can be left for another Huge run ? Yes it's Salmon season and any RUN is the one ..

He said nose to tail and pretty wide band of them for awhile. A friend who is meeting up with them for the weekend got there a couple of hours before dark and caught and released two kings. In that short time before dark he said it was unbelievable.

Since we have already had many massive run's of Cohoes, I would have bet $1,000.00 on a massive run of Kings TODAY, due to all conditons, etc... They have been few and far between. But NOT any longer! From what Im see'ing :) Up river :) Randy ----

Hey Charlie- What your reading here is the excitement of the first runs --by no means the last. Fish will continue to come in for quite a bit now- Steel will get better- big runs of Kings has really yet to occur and the Hos are doing very well and will stay for a very long time. In 3 weeks it should really be HOT. Remember its mostly river 'regulars' reporting here so their experiences may well be better than the average Joe on the River. For most the best is yet to come. As you may have picked up on some threads some of these guys are good enough to have STOPPED till late season already- They like to miss the crowds during the HOT part of the KING season and just go for cold weather Steel.

With the largest portion (personal observation and cleaning station reports) OF these early fish having their adipose fins intact at some point soon the river is going to be choked by a huuuge run of the hatchery stocked fish. They should be extra large since they head to the lake earlier and are twice the size of the wild fish when they do.

Interesting Wader- Learn something every day up there ( or here reading bout it) Saw that fin thing coming up here and there and wondered bout it. Actually it seems great for several reasons- good natural repro goin on- nice runs certainly yet to occur- Might actually say something bout the stuff we were kickin round last week bout the early runs and the egg gathering at the hatchery being later. Does this mean the real bulk of whats happening now has little to do with the States effort at the Hatchery?? NO STONE THROWIN whatsoever at the hatchery folks- even if this is only natural it couldnt have happened without their input controls and efforts. Biologist told me bout 52% of the Hos are natural spawn- guess this is them. Kings too??? Kudos to the minimum flow folks cause dont think the Natural thing would be quite so good without it. All that said this is still a put and take fishery and could never exist without the Hatchery and its input and efforts. Just kinda nice to see a little natural assist.

Pure speculation on my part. No scientific evidence for any of it. Just conecting the dots in my mind.

If anyone rembers 07; awesome coho runs in early september in to early october.... I remeber looking of the Altmar bridge when the fly zone was closed in mid october and it was coup from top to bottom all the way through the hitch hole.... I would assume massive natural repro took place during that time...
