I use the large on big water for big fish.. i also used it (large) on the gills last week. It worked but too big for my liking on smaller fish..
They are great but tend to play havoc on your leader, kink it up pretty good.

For small stream trout, just use a large dry as an indi. it also ups your odds by 1

not saying this in any type of snoob manner; but; i honestly think a thingamabobber is far from fly fishing... just my opinion... but they can really increase your drift and hook up ratio...

I kinda like that dynamite theory-- a stick or two in the Tressel bout 10 AM and they all grab their fish and go home.
Its actually easier on the fish too.

Better used at the waters edge.
Spaced about 10 feet apart on both sides.

Whats up with lead eyes ? Don't have any in my box or kit... But a 3/0 or maybe a #7 and bead chain eye does not equal 3 #5's .. Your math blows dude lol..

If a #5 shot weighs 2 grams and you use 2 of them, while beadchain eyes weigh 3 grams and a 3/0 weighs 1 gram its all the same.
I filled in some BS numbers to save you the trouble DB!

    Notice the pretty pink coloring.

I'm not a math professor and I've never stayed in a Holiday Inn.
I just applied my talent for BS to make up numbers to achieve a presupposed outcome.

Here's a link to some decent bobbers (indicators) I've tried and liked. They don't kink your leader, are cold hand friendly and quick adjusting. I also use thingamabobbers as I have found them a little more indestructible, and as I tie my own leaders, I can replace a kinked leader butt easily. I generally use loop to loop and a stepdown in the leader, usually 40 # to 25#  fluoro as the first step in the leader, so I replace that if it's kinked. I rarely do, though.  I've found that some of the time my hookups in the winter have incresed by being able to make very small adjustments within seams and pockets. Since I can get a nymph or egg or worm, or whatever to hang straight down and take whatever line down  a seam  I wish, I can really cover the water when fish aren't moving far. If you click on the instruction section of the site, it has a video of indicators in use. The tips and explanation are OK in it. Both this type and the Thingamambobbers pull off the water and cast OK.  I often let the rig drift below me and let the current load the rod (waterloading) - I just flip upstream with no roll or backcast. Works very well to fish close in by raising the rod high as it drifts towards you. I still get snagged fish occasionally, but the majority are fair and it makes it very difficult to floss.  I'm sure most of you know this stuff, but I thought I'd throw it out there for the one or two that don't.  If you don't think this is flyfishing and  should be taboo, well, just move on down the river.  I like the challenge and feel of fighting fish on a flyrod, I don't give a crap what you call it.
