Clarion Fishing == 7-7-11 ==

Had my line out this afternoon and noticed a small "nibble" as I lifted the rod I felt a nice steady pull away. I set the hook and the fish continued going away from me pulling some "drag" out .. then suddenly ==== NOTHING...

I reeled in and saw my line was "broke" about 4 inches above the knot holding the hook.

I tied on another hook and added a half crawler and tossed to the same spot... within a minute I felt that same pull away set the hook and the battle was on... Much to my surprise it was a walleye ... a 22 inch walleye and sure as hell there in it's mouth was my other hook and crawler. AMAZING...

here's a couple pictures...

and here it is on the grill with some "brauts" for supper

    6# Green Fluorocarbon that I bought last summer at Poor Richards to rig my Erie perch rod with and have fallen in love with it... have it on all my rods & reels now...

    Diameter is less that 4 pound mono so is not very visible to fish and VERY VERY strong and abrasive resistant for the rocks in the river...

    I enjoyed the walleye 10 times more than the "brauts"

    I may go back to that spot later this afternon or early evening.. I think there is one more in there

    Nice one Doc! I've caught a couple of walleye in the river while fishing for trout but certainly none that nice.

    Using the Floro Doc make sure you tie good knots. I found out the hard way that shoddy knots and Floro don't mix....

    Usually use a Palomar or a Trilene knot for 99% of my fishing knots...

    I usually have no problem with them coming undone... and always re-tie when I get home before heading out for another day of river fishing ... sometimes I even take a minute and re-tie while I am fishing the river .. drifting along on the rocks can cause some damage but usually I'll get snagged and lose tackle often enough that wear and tear usually is not a problem either...

    Nice fish Doc...glad to see you got a keeper.

    FWIW, I've had bad luck w/ the palomar on floro.
    I use it for all ties with braid...works great.
    but mono & floro, I stick with the improved clich knot.
    Trilene should do fine as well.
    Just something about the palomar/floro combo that tends to slip in my experience.
    Again, nice fish.

    Really neat pics! You seem to get your fair amount of fishing time in Sir! Do you mainly fish the Clarion? If so, would you mind showing a newbie around sometime?

    FlyFishingPenrod ---

    Wow == what a long username ????

    I spend about 80% of my time fishing on the Clarion .. I love the fact that one can never be sure of what is on the line after setting the hook... been fishing it seriously for about 9 years now.. I kind of gave up on the "creek stompin"...

    I have often suggested places to fish along the Clarion in E-mails and PMs... but rarely "meet" anyone anymore
    to "show" places ...

    several times the guy turned out to be a real AXX or never showed at all....

    so I learned a lesson there

    right now with no rain, the river is extremely LOW and warm ... you have to be able to find the deeper holes and runs to catch fish...

    I hope to get some Clarion fishing in tomorrow evening...

    The was a fellow by the name of Matt Penrod around for a while that used it. It's been close to two years since he's posted, or even logged on though.

    In reading your posts I find it hard to believe you are an older fella, they appear more like a young "wipper snapper" fresh out of school pretending to be someone he is not ...

    BTW as you kids say ... or as us older folks say .. by the way ...Is your first name Jim

    I'm really unsure who is Jim is Doc. I only wish I was a young lad fresh out of high school though. Would do many things different but I love my life now, especially as a retiree, though I don't get out on the water as much as I would like too.

    There's a Jim that visits here until he get tossed then changes usernames and is back again for a week or so... His real name is Josh but he went by Jim on this board.. and every time he comes back he is a different age and appears to have a different personality... but the truth always prevails
