Jig style flies

I have been seeing more and more jig style flies being used for warmwater flyfishing. Magazines have wrote about them and some of my catalogs have the new flies up for sale. Just wondering if anybody else has tied any or have fished them? I tied a few up and some variations of patterns I have seen. Hoping to get on the water soon to try them out.

Grim Reaper tied on a 3/0 60degree jig hook. Included a 5mm glass rattle.



Hairy Fodder on 3/0 jig hook with the rattle. Also added a spun dubbing head around the eyes.


Hairy Fodder. Same as the above, just a different color scheme and some extra flash.

    do you use a bait caster or spining rig for those?

    Those look nice. I had lotsa luck with this last year for smallies and walleye on the yough-

    Um, fly gear lol!

    You have gear to handle these The TFO Mini Mag will cast these without a problem. They are not that heavy. Same barbell eyes that I put on a #2 Clouser. Glass rattle does not add that much weight. I have casted 1/0's of these patterns(minus rattles)without issue. These bigger, slightly heavier ones should not be a problem. Can't be any worse than throwing a footlong musky/pike fly...

    Nice Pete. I have seen that fly but never used one. Might have to tie some of those. Always fun to try something new!

    I have a good bit of them in 1/0 and 3/0. Figured I might as well tie with them, won't use them for anything else lol. Just something else to mess with...
